Exhibition : Rand’s Supplications
I am delighted to be sharing my work and my architectural methodologies at the Gallery of Montparnasse in Paris from May 11th through May 22nd.
Thank you to the City of Paris and the municipality of the 14th arrondissement for this great opportunity.
The Gallery of Montparnasse was the host to the first expressionist exhibitions in France. It featured several well-known artists such as Willem de Kooning, Arshile Gorky, Ad Reinhardt, Hans Hartung, Georges Mathieu, Mark Tobey, Francis Picabia, Jackson Po***ck and Mark Rothko. For most of them it was the first time their paintings were exhibited in France.

Designing for the youngest is a delight throughout the senses!
Our latest research and design project is a nursery that makes the best out of architecture towards the child’s wellbeing. In line with the concept of place-based education, our design makes best use of light, and manipulates textures and microworlds in order to create an ideal exploratory experience for children.

Action becomes part of the architectural design when we imagine the life of a project and its users beyond the limits of a single space. Last April, within the Khamsa collective, we designed a multidisciplinary solution for the French Ministry of Defense: the Respire* project. The proposal included an easily-placed inflatable structure and an interior layout of recyclable materials that cater to the emergency of the pandemic in an environmentally-conscious way. It takes into consideration the spatial and logistical recommendations of the World Health Organization, while allowing doctors to offer online-consultations during periods of precautionary quarantine. By incorporating a socio-environmental interface into architectural and software design, the project answers to a timely challenge from a new perspective, with newly-found resilience and creativity.

The structure of project owners, users and operators depends partially on the functional layout of a given context. The neighborhood and the city also find their ways to the establishment in question. A site is never a mere series of coordinates, but rather a meeting point* of socio-dynamics. In our practice, we always invite the client to see the bigger picture; we then use our site analysis to develop their vision, and enrich it on the urban and architectural scale.

Today, more than ever, we are asked to re-evaluate our priorities and methods. This applies to the way we perform and what we choose to put at the heart of architectural and urban work, and this manifests in our latest project, Respire* (French for Breathe). This medical proposal of ours, developed by a number of multi-disciplinary professionals, has extended its reach beyond the walls of health centers by virtually connecting with members of surrounding communities, thereby creating a ripple effect around each built unit. Our purpose was to integrate urban context while making the best of virtual means and benefiting the client specifically in times of their most dire needs: catering to citizens while abiding by the criteria set by a co-designer that imposed itself on the process: COVID19.

Stay tuned!
