TVK is a Paris-based international architecture and urban design office

Founded in Paris in 2003, TVK focuses primarily on the question of building the city and the metropolis. Educated in architecture and urbanism mainly in Paris and Harvard, Pierre Alain Trévelo and Antoine Viger-Kohler pursue a research that aims to capture the complexity and paradoxical nature of the contemporary city. This research crosses therefore essential topics, which are sometimes neglected

in the contemporary city; such as the potential of architecture in locations determined by other factors, the role of large modern infrastructures, the status of monumentality, or the environmental condition in the metropolitan context.

L’agence Trévelo & Viger-Kohler s’intéresse essentiellement à la question de la construction de la ville et de la métropole. Formés à l’architecture et à l’urbanisme principalement à Paris et Harvard, Pierre Alain Trévelo et Antoine Viger-Kohler poursuivent ensemble une recherche dont l’objectif est de s’emparer de la complexité et du caractère paradoxal de la ville contemporaine pour envisager d’en continuer la construction. Cette recherche traverse des thèmes essentiels, mais parfois délaissés, de la ville contemporaine, tels que le potentiel de l’architecture dans des lieux déterminés par d’autres éléments, la place des grandes infrastructures modernes, le statut de la monumentalité, ou la condition environnementale dans un ensemble métropolitain.

our team has won the competition launched by and for the transformation of Porte de la Villette in Paris.

Our proposal takes the form of a large triangular public space of around 5 hectares that fits beneath the infrastructures. This garden-square matches the scale of the urban stitching challenge: it forms an identifiable figure, helping people orient themselves and imagine the place. This central public space is the key element in a broader system of promenades and parks — a principle of transformation and calming for this part of the “Périphérique city” between Paris, Aubervilliers, and Pantin.

[COMPETITION] Renovation of Gandhi towers, Brussels

We are very proud to announce that our team has won the competition for the renovation of the Gandhi towers 2 and 4 in Brussels.

The project addresses Brussel’s current major urban issues, such as the transformation of post-war social housing buildings, combined with the revitalization of open and public spaces.
Our proposal is guided by three core values that shape our architectural, urban, and landscape intentions:
- Placing humans and social relations at the center of our reflections: making this project a pilot experience in integrating gender perspectives and promoting inclusivity and accessibility in the rehabilitation of social housing.
- Activating and creating new urban dynamics: Aiming to revitalize the entire Gandhi site.
- Undertaking a thoughtful refurbishment of the towers: A renovation shaped by its physical and social context, offering a qualitative and ambitious transformation.

[ON GOING] ZAC VAL DE FONTENAY-ALOUETTE

Réhabiliter l’infrastructure, c’est avant tout reconnaitre les spécificités de la ville adolescente. Le patrimoine de Val de Fontenay est ainsi constitué d’édifices emblématiques, de la présence d’une hyper nature et d’usages singuliers. Pour fabriquer ici un grand projet local, il s’agit de penser ces derniers comme un héritage pour les transformations à venir.

To rehabilitate the infrastructure is first and foremost to recognize the specific characteristics of the adolescent town. Val de Fontenay’s heritage is made up of emblematic buildings, the presence of hyper-nature and singular uses. To create a major local project here, we need to think of the latter as a legacy for future transformations.

Les travaux de gros œuvre se terminent et dessinent le nouveau paysage du centre-ville de Bobigny. La forme claire des édifices et de l’espace public ainsi que la simplicité de la mise en œuvre des matériaux esquisse de nouveaux liens en lien avec les quartiers existants.

Issu de l’étude commandée par la Société du Grand Paris et Ile-de-France Mobilité, « Places du Grand Paris » prend la forme d’un traité de conception de l’espace public élaboré avec une équipe de concepteurs, chercheurs et scientifiques. Pensé à partir de la situation du Grand Paris, il énonce des principes dont la portée est plus générale.

Public space reflects the way in which we inhabit and transform the earth's surface. It is a major lever for renewing the way we inhabit the Earth. The result of a study commissioned by the SGP and IDFM, "Places du Grand Paris" takes the form of a public space design guide developed with a team of designers, researchers and scientists. It is based on the Greater Paris situation, but sets out principles that are more general in scope.

[INAUGURATION] EOLE-EVANGILE, Paris XIX

The opening of the ilot fertile, after a year of completion of the various programs, is an opportunity to measure the relevance of bringing multiple uses to life in the heart of a situation shaped by infrastructure. The public space has thus taken the form of a large garden open to the city, helping to create new urban continuities. The project also demonstrates that it is possible to build with solid stone on a large scale and thus drastically reduce our carbon footprint.

L’inauguration de l’ilot fertile, après une année de livraisons des différents programmes, est l’occasion de mesurer la pertinence de faire vivre de multiples usages au cœur d’une situation marquée par les infrastructures. L’espace public a ainsi pris la forme d'un grand jardin ouvert sur la ville contribuant à créer de nouvelles continuités urbaines. Le projet fait aussi la démonstration qu’il est possible de construire en pierre massive porteuse à grande échelle et de réduire ainsi drastiquement notre empreinte carbone.

The Grand Paris Express is the winner of the Veronica Rudge Green Prize in urban desing awarded by the Graduate School of Design at Harvard University. From January 23 to March 31, an exhibition will present all of the projects conducted by the Société du Grand Paris and, in particular, the study conducted by TVK and a multidisciplinary team, "Places du Grand Paris".
