Hyatt Regency San Francisco — the real architecture begins inside 🏨✨

From the outside, the *Hyatt Regency San Francisco* appears as a monumental stepped concrete structure overlooking the waterfront. But its most remarkable architectural feature is hidden within.

Designed by John Portman and completed in the 1970s, the hotel is home to a dramatic 15-story atrium that was recognized by Guinness World Records as the world's largest hotel lobby at the time.

Rising through the center of the building, the vast interior space creates a futuristic experience of light, scale, and movement. Glass elevators glide through the atrium, while balconies and walkways overlook the immense central void, transforming circulation into a theatrical architectural event.

The project became one of the defining examples of Portman's vision for hotels as immersive interior worlds, where the lobby functions not merely as an entrance, but as the heart of the entire building.

More than fifty years later, the atrium remains a landmark of hospitality design and a powerful reminder that architecture is sometimes most impressive where it is least expected.
