Design tips below!

We had a sneak peak at this nearly finished project. The client had a strong vision of lots of glass, and vaulted ceilings. We helped facilitate the design and taking on board a sympathetic approach, we acknowledged the existing dwelling materials and decided to tie it in to match the existing. The gable extension, captures the beauty of the south-facing sun with its glazed gable, flooding the space with natural light. Whilst the pitched roof and vaulted ceilings hint at grandeur, the interior unveils a sleek modern open plan kitchen by and a spacious family room designed as the focal point for family entertainment.

**Design Tip 1:** Vaulted ceilings don’t only provide a sense of luxury but also enhance the spaciousness of a room, making it appear larger and airier.

**Design Tip 2:** South-facing glazing is the homeowner’s best friend. It offers optimal daylight exposure, uplifting the mood of the interiors.

**Design Tip 3:** When merging modern designs with traditional homes, it’s crucial to strike a balance. Whilst we’ve revamped the interior to echo contemporary tastes, we ensured the exterior aesthetics respect and blend seamlessly with the property’s original charm.

Two-Storey Gable Extension by AK Architecture

The master en-suite bathroom is nestled in amongst a concealed door within the walk-in wardrobe & dressing room. The master ensuite bathroom, a seamless blend of sophistication and function.

The first thing that captures attention is the elegant interplay of colours and materials. The richness of the darker wood transitions in an instant to the pristine expanse of white marble. The room is beautifully illuminated by natural light spilling through two large sash and case windows. Positioned beneath these windows, the toilet and sink enjoy a backdrop of soothing soft daylight, blending function and aesthetics seamlessly.

Moving onwards and upwards in our enchanting West End Aberdeen home, we reach the attic, accessible via its own private stairwell, opening into an ultimate guest bedroom, a space where comfort meets exquisite design.

Spacious and Inviting:
This attic isn’t just a bedroom; it’s a comprehensive suite designed with guests in mind. It provides not only a large, inviting bedroom area but also generously incorporates a seating area, perfect for relaxation or reading, offering guests a private retreat to unwind.

Wardrobe Wonderland & En Suite Ease:

Progress Report: Unfolding the Architectural Journey in Cults, Aberdeen
Thankfully watertight.

1️⃣ Site Deconstruction:

The existing building plasterboard and services were meticulous stripped during downtaking process, we cleared the slate while preserving essential structural elements, setting the stage for architectural transformation.

2️⃣ Temporary Support:
Before advancing, temporary supports were installed to ensure structural integrity, a critical step that often goes unnoticed but serves as the linchpin of the subsequent stages structural support stage.

3️⃣ Structural Engineering:

The heart of the project began to take form through precise structural work to support the new layout and the vast departure from the existing layout.

4️⃣ Timber Frame Assembly:

Following the layout to the plan, the new layout was formed with during the er****on of the timber kit phase.

5️⃣ First Fix Services:

Often goes unseen behind finished walls, but an essential part of every building. Electrical conduits and plumbing lines were mapped and installed.

6️⃣ Thermal Envelope:

High-efficiency insulation was integrated, not just to comply with regulations but to elevate the home’s sustainability and long-term cost-effectiveness.

7️⃣ Plasterboard Installation:

The transformation from construction chaos to defined spaces occurred with plaster boarding, a stage that’s both functional and aesthetically transformative. But not all

8️⃣ Concurrent Developments:

Meanwhile externally the 2-storey gable extension progresses. The two-pronged approach of extending and refurbishing simultaneously, ensuring seamless integration and design continuity.

9️⃣ Architectural Summary:

As we near completion, it’s rewarding to see the close match between our drawings and the actual build.

They Thought They Needed an Extension… Until This Happened 👀✨

This home in Bridge of Don, Aberdeen was originally set to include a rear sun lounge extension, an open-plan kitchen and dining area, and a partial garage conversion.

But once the internal walls came down—something planned from the very beginning—the clients realised:
The space already felt complete.

🔹 By simply removing the dividing wall and borrowing a little space from the living room, we streamlined the kitchen layout and brought new life to underused areas—without needing the extra extension.

🔹 Half of the single garage was smartly converted to create a compact utility and WC, giving the home everything it needed, neatly within its existing footprint.

🖤 A high-end kitchen installation .international was the final touch—elevating the space into something truly special.

📍 This project shows that good design doesn’t always mean going bigger—it means making every square metre work harder.
