đź’ś Proud to Support ! đź’ś

Today our teams across Griffiths have been wearing purple to show their support for the Lighthouse Construction Industry Charity and their incredible Wear It Purple Week campaign.

From site teams to office colleagues, it’s been brilliant to see so many people getting involved to raise awareness of mental health and wellbeing in the construction industry - an issue that continues to affect far too many of our friends, colleagues and supply chain partners.

A huge thank‑you to everyone who took part, shared photos and helped spark conversations that really matter. Your support helps the Lighthouse Charity continue providing vital emotional, physical and financial wellbeing support to construction workers and their families.

This week our team visited Rhiw Syr Dafydd Primary School in Blackwood as part of our work on the A465 OJV, delivering another hands‑on Bridge to School experience to three enthusiastic Year 5 classes.

With the pupils currently studying bridges as part of their curriculum, the session couldn’t have come at a better time. Together, we explored the world of STEM learning, structural engineering and teamwork, giving learners the chance to step into the shoes of civil engineers for the day.

The children showed fantastic creativity and problem‑solving as they worked in teams to build and test their own bridge structures. Their curiosity, confidence and determination made the activity a real highlight for our team.

This term is always a busy one for our Bridge to Schools programme, and we’re proud to continue inspiring the next generation of engineers while supporting local schools along our project routes.

A huge thank‑you to the staff and pupils at Rhiw Syr Dafydd for such a warm welcome, we look forward to returning again soon.

🌉 Bridge to Schools at Greenhill Special School, Cardiff! 👷‍♂️👷‍♀️✨

Our team had a fantastic time visiting Greenhill Special School in Cardiff as part of our Bridge to Schools programme. Greenhill is a specialist school supporting pupils with social, emotional and behavioural needs, providing a nurturing environment where learners can build confidence, develop new skills and thrive. It was a pleasure to work with such an enthusiastic group of young people.

After previously delivering sessions on engineering careers and team‑building challenges, we were delighted to return - this time to help pupils build their very own replica of the Severn Bridge!

Despite the dreadful weather, the activity was able to go ahead thanks to the fantastic support of Taffs Well Rugby Club, who kindly provided a dry location at very short notice. Their help ensured the pupils could enjoy the full experience safely and comfortably, and we are extremely grateful for their community spirit.

The students showed brilliant teamwork, problem‑solving and creativity throughout the activity, and it was inspiring to see their confidence grow as the structure took shape.

A huge thank‑you to the staff and pupils at Greenhill for the warm welcome once again. We’re proud to support hands‑on learning experiences that spark curiosity and open doors to future careers in engineering and construction.

🎉 CELEBRATING SUCCESS: JACK BILLINGHAM WINS WESTON COLLEGE ALUMNI LAUREATE AWARD

We are delighted to share that Jack Billingham, our Senior Engineer working on our Bristol Airport projects, has been awarded the Weston College Alumni Laureate Award, a prestigious recognition presented to former apprentices who have gone on to achieve outstanding professional success.

Jack’s journey with Griffiths began in 2016, when he joined us as an Apprentice Groundworker. Through determination, continuous learning and the support of our structured development pathways, Jack has progressed through multiple qualifications and roles, from Level 2 and Level 3 apprenticeships, to completing his Level 4 HNC, achieving EngTech MICE status, and now leading engineering delivery on major projects at Bristol Airport.

His career has taken him from early groundworks on the South Bristol Link Road to key roles on Bristol Airport’s Enabling Works, Multi Storey Car Park 2, and now the North Side Car Parks and Terminal Transformation schemes. Along the way, Jack has not only developed his own technical expertise but has also taken on leadership responsibilities, including mentoring apprentice and trainee engineers.

This award recognises Jack’s exceptional progress, his commitment to the profession, and the impact he continues to make across the South West. It also reflects the strength of our long standing partnership with Weston College, and the value of investing in apprenticeships that create long term careers, not short term placements.

With new apprentices joining our West of England team this year, Jack now plays a key role in supporting and inspiring the next generation of civil engineers, a full circle moment that embodies the very best of Griffiths’ approach to developing local talent.

Congratulations Jack, a thoroughly deserved achievement and a proud moment for the whole Griffiths team.
