What to do if a circuit breaker keeps tripping ⚡

If your circuit breaker keeps tripping, don’t just keep resetting it — it’s usually a sign that something needs attention.

Here are a few first steps you can take 👇

• Unplug appliances connected to that circuit
• Reset the breaker once
• Check whether one faulty appliance could be causing the issue
• Avoid overloading sockets or extension leads
• Watch for warning signs like buzzing, burning smells, or sparks 🚨

It could be something simple like an overloaded circuit — but if it keeps happening, there may be a deeper electrical fault.

Time to call a qualified electrician at Electrical Estimates if: 👷‍♂️

• The breaker trips again straight away
• It won’t stay on after resetting
• You notice burning smells or buzzing
• Part of your home keeps losing power
• You’re unsure what’s causing it

Electrical faults should always be taken seriously. If in doubt, contact Electrical Estimates to have it checked safely and professionally ✅

We recommend that wherever you are in the UK, and whatever the tenure of your property, you should have the electrical installation checked by a suitably qualified person, like a registered electrician, 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝗳𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝘆𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘀.

Following the inspection, the registered electrician will issue you with an Electrical Installation Condition Report (EICR) which will either formally declare that the installation is safe for continued use, or highlight any suggested or urgent repairs that need to be made. This gives you the peace of mind that your tenants and properties are electrically safe.

Remember that this is a legal requirement in Wales, and if you are a tenant and haven't had these checked, ensure to get in touch to ensure that it is!

Garden lighting is commonplace, but can create a safety risk if not properly installed. For mains supplied lighting in the garden follow these simple suggestions:

🏡 Buy good quality electrical outdoor lighting equipment from a reputable stockist.
Make sure any outdoor lights are weatherproof.

🏡 Ensure light fittings used in water features are waterproof.

🏡 Have it installed by a registered electrician in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions and BS 7671 – Requirements for Electrical Installations (IET Wiring Regulations).

🏡 Check regularly for damaged lighting fittings, cables and connections.

🏡 Keep maintained and free from leaves and dirt.

🏡 Before changing any lamps, make sure you switch off the power supply.
