Steventon Lights Project – Traffic Update
We wanted to give the community an update on the Steventon Lights project and address some questions we've been receiving.
Since January, our site team has made a conscious effort to liaise with the organisers of Truck Festival regarding traffic in the area. Unfortunately, there was very little engagement from their side until last Saturday.
As a result, we have limited our site activities since close of play yesterday, and will continue to do so for the duration of the event, until traffic returns to normal.
We also raised the possibility of signposting alternative routes to help ease congestion. While this was accepted in principle, it doesn't appear to have been followed through.
During the event period, we have maintained two-way traffic throughout the site, with only occasional pauses to allow pedestrians to cross safely. We have not stopped any vehicles for vehicle movements our end. This means traffic has had the same capacity through our site as in previous years, and in theory, the mini roundabout should also be helping to ease congestion from the A34.
To clarify: the traffic lights visible near the roundabout are being operated by the event team, not our site team.
For further context, the queue of traffic was observed stretching back 4.2km from the event entrance to the mini roundabout, which we feel speaks for itself in terms of the traffic management in place. We've also had reports of no traffic management at all on Featherbed Lane.
