Swansea’s Victoria Park has been given a much needed facelift.
Delivered as part of Swansea’s municipal skate-able spaces strategy, the new plaza has seen some serious ripping since the fences came down - head over to vicky_park_plaza for a taste of the action.
Swansea City Council worked with Curve Studio to audit existing facilities in the city, assessing conditions and mapping out where investment was needed, with a view to delivering a variety of Skateparks that covered all bases.
(Once the investment is complete, most people in the city won’t have to travel more than two miles to reach a redeveloped skatepark).
The Skatepark needed to fit in the space between the existing path, the perimeter wall, and the tree canopies at either end.
With the previous metal park left unused and unloved, our design looked to include the essential features to revive the scene - a wide mini-ramp for learning transition, and a variety of ledges, curbs and banks covering off the street classics.
Alongside the staples, the wedge to red curb feature brings a little flair. Dyed concrete and welsh slate cladding nestles the park into it’s surroundings.
