Flood Prevention

The property is a new build beach front property in Bracklesham Bay near Portsmouth, which backs directly onto the beach. The area has a long history of coastal flooding, with significant events recorded in the 20th and 21st centuries, prompting major flood defence interventions in the area.

the solution was to install Technitherm as part of an overall flood defence system, the first 1600mm of cavity was capped with a cavity closer, which was to be then filled below this with our Technitherm® Cavity Wall System, KIWA Certificate No. BAW-18-037-S-A-UK and BAW-18-038-S-A-UK.
Our approved contractor Prize Insulation Ltd then injected Technitherm® into the 150-160mm cavity through a series of pre-drilled 12mm holes drilled through the mortar joints of the external blockwork, giving structural stabilisation, thermal insulation, and flood prevention all in one package. Above the cavity closer, standard PIR board had been fitted by the builders for the rest of the thermal insulation up to the soffit.

The outcome is the property is insulated to a higher
level than required for new build Properties.
by building regulations.
Technitherm® at 150mm average has
an uvalue of 0.15, and due
to the stabilisation of Technitherm® the
walls are also now stronger and more secure.
Not only does this improve the properties
energy efficiency and EPC rating, but also
prevents any deterioration of the walls build
structure after any potential future floods,
which in turn makes the cleanup process post flood much faster, and less costly.

The Project:

Tiny Tipper Home

The team of Josh, Toby and Maddy, aka The Professional Idiots have been making the Tiny Tipper Home, affectionately known as Pippa.
After building the camper
part of the project, they were looking for the best form of insulation to suit their needs. Duratherm® does that for them perfectly, with the best overall thermal values for thickness, add to that a monolithic finish, so no joints or seams to let warm air escape or warm air in when they travel to Italy once the build is completed.

Duratherm® was the solution for this
project and at 50mm thickness will
give approximately 12x improvement
in thermal performance going from
a uvalue of around 5.82 to 0.49.

Foam Insulations sprayed the interior of the Tiny Tipper Home with Duratherm® to the walls, floor and ceiling. This makes a massive improvement in thermal performance and helps with the rigidity of the aluminium panels, plus a side benefit from the installation is improved acoustic performance.

Nice project by our approved contractor Modern Plan Insulation, great work as always.

During routine maintenance the cavity walls were found to be missing many of their wall tie bars which had corroded, likely accelerated by the sea air causing the whole building to become unstable.

Top work as always by Modern Plan Insulations

Colin and James have been busy this week spraying 180mm of Isothane Duratherm closed cell class 1 fire rated sprayfoam insulation on the underside of this GRP domed roof.

The dome was first sprayed at ground level before being lifted into position and then finally sealed with more duratherm to create an airtite seal and eliminate any condensation risk.

The properties had previously been installed with mineral wool which was not suitable due to the high exposure zone and the soft and porous nature of the bricks, both of which have led to premature wall tie failures and the mineral wool insulation to become wet, causing damp and colder homes.
