Summer 2026 has certainly kept those of us looking after outdoor spaces on our toes!

There may be some rain about this week, but after such a prolonged hot, dry spell, a few showers will not change everything overnight.

We look after the grounds surrounding commercial properties and managed residential developments across North East Hampshire and the surrounding areas, adapting our maintenance visits to what each site actually needs to keep it tidy, safe and well maintained.

Noticed rather more leaves on the ground than you’d expect in August? 🍂

During prolonged hot, dry weather, some trees shed leaves early to reduce water loss and conserve moisture.

It’s less a change of season and more a survival strategy.

The leaf blowers, however, have been recalled from their summer holiday. 💨🍂

❤️ A lovely surprise for our team today...

Many of you will know that, alongside running our business, we're also actively involved with BNI Farnborough Jets.

Over the past few weeks, Louise organised the group's World Cup sweepstake, keeping everyone updated with fixtures, league tables, facts and plenty of friendly banter along the way.

This morning, the group surprised her with some incredibly kind words, thoughtful gifts and a testimonial to say thank you. It was completely unexpected and a very special moment.

We're in the grounds maintenance business, but we're also a people business.

Looking after commercial grounds is what we do, but building relationships, communicating well and bringing people together are just as important to us.

We're also delighted that the sweepstake raised money for Sands - baby loss charity, a wonderful charity chosen by the winner of the sweepstake.

A huge thank you to everyone involved in the sweepstake - especially ActionCoach Nell and Tim at TBB Design for such a thoughtful surprise. It meant more than you know. 💚

💧 Temporary Hosepipe Restrictions Coming into Force This Weekend

South East Water has announced temporary hosepipe restrictions across Berkshire, Hampshire and Surrey, starting Saturday 25th July.

If you manage commercial grounds or simply take pride in your outdoor spaces, here's what you need to know.

🌿 For Commercial/Business/Industrial Grounds

Many offices, business parks and residential developments have automatic irrigation systems. If they're connected to the mains water supply, they are generally covered by the restrictions and should be switched OFF while the temporary ban is in place, unless a specific exemption applies.

Prioritise any manual watering for new planting and seasonal displays, as these need it most. Established trees, shrubs and lawns are generally tougher than people think and will usually recover once cooler, wetter weather returns. If you do need to water, use a watering can and do it early in the morning or later in the evening to reduce evaporation.

🏡 For anyone with a garden

You won't be able to use a hosepipe or sprinkler to water your garden, wash your car or clean patios and driveways. A watering can is still allowed, and watering early in the morning or later in the evening helps make every drop count.

🌱 A few simple ways to help your garden cope:

💧 Apply mulch around plants to help retain moisture.

🌼 Prioritise watering new plants and containers, as these will dry out much faster than established planting.

🌱 Leave lawns a little longer to help protect the soil from drying out.

🧹 Sweep paths and patios instead of washing them down.

These restrictions are intended to protect local water supplies and the environment during this prolonged period of hot, dry weather.

Although nobody likes seeing hosepipe restrictions introduced, a brown lawn doesn't necessarily mean it's unhealthy. Established grass naturally goes dormant during prolonged dry weather and, in most cases, will recover once the rain returns.

🌳 Heatwaves do not just affect people. They can affect trees too.

With the this spell of hot, dry weather, our teams have noticed several large branches that have come down unexpectedly, both on sites we maintain and while travelling between jobs.

This is sometimes referred to as Summer Branch Drop. It is a rare natural phenomenon where a mature tree can suddenly shed a large limb, even on a calm day and even when the tree appears healthy.

Because there is often no obvious warning, it can catch people by surprise.

If you're out walking, working or enjoying green spaces over the coming days, it's worth taking a little extra care:

🌿 Be aware when passing beneath large, mature trees.

🎧 Consider keeping your headphones out so you can hear any unusual cracking sounds around you.

⚠️ If you notice a large branch that has fallen, or one that looks cracked or is hanging above the ground, keep well clear and report it to the landowner or site manager.

🚫 Never try to move a large branch yourself, particularly if it is still caught up in the tree, as it could shift or fall without warning.

As part of our routine maintenance visits, we keep an eye out for visible tree safety concerns and report anything that may require further investigation by a qualified arborist. While no inspection can predict every case of summer branch drop, regular inspections remain an important part of responsible site management and can identify obvious defects before they become a bigger problem.

It is also important to remember that this is a rare occurrence. Mature trees provide enormous benefits by creating shade, improving biodiversity, supporting wildlife and making our outdoor spaces more enjoyable. The aim is not to fear them, but to manage them responsibly.

A little extra awareness during periods of prolonged hot weather can go a long way.

☀️ Looking after green spaces starts with looking after the people who care for them.

This week's Red Weather Warning has been a reminder that grounds maintenance is more than just cutting grass and trimming hedges.

Our teams spend hours working outdoors with machinery, PPE and very little shade. During extreme heat, that comes with real risks.

Over the past few days we've adjusted some schedules by a few days where needed. Not because standards have changed, but because the safety and wellbeing of our teams will always come first.

The grass may grow a little longer for a few days. The hedge trimming might wait until the temperature drops. Those things can be put right.

Heat exhaustion cannot.

A huge thank you to all of our clients who understand that. Your support allows us to keep our teams safe while still delivering the high standards you expect once conditions improve.

To everyone working outside this week, whether you're maintaining grounds, building, delivering, repairing, farming or keeping our communities running, thank you. Please take care of yourselves. 🌿💚

🌡️ The heatwave is here... and it's not just people who will feel it.

With temperatures forecast to reach 35°C next week, many lawns, trees, shrubs and flower beds will be under pressure.

Our teams will still be out looking after the outdoor spaces people work, visit and live in every day. We'll be adapting how we work to protect both the landscapes we maintain and the wellbeing of our teams.

We'll be:

🌿 Raising mowing heights where appropriate to reduce stress on grass.

🌳 Monitoring planted areas for signs of heat stress.

⚠️ Keeping an eye out for issues that can develop during prolonged dry weather and reporting anything that needs attention.

👷 Ensuring our teams stay hydrated, protected from the sun and able to take additional breaks when required.

💚 Recognising that water is a precious resource and encouraging its responsible use.

For those looking after their own gardens, a few simple tips can help:

💧 If you must water, do so early in the morning and focus on the areas that need it most. A thorough soak is far better than frequent light watering.

🌱 Leave your grass a little longer than usual.

🍂 Remove weeds that compete with plants for moisture.

🪵 Apply mulch to beds where possible to help retain moisture.

🌳 Pay particular attention to newly planted trees and shrubs, as they are often the first to struggle in prolonged hot weather.

🚰 If you do not already have one, a water butt is worth considering for the future. Collecting rainwater during wetter months can provide a more sustainable source of water when dry spells arrive.

Most established lawns are tougher than they look. During periods of extreme heat they may lose colour and growth may slow down, but many recover perfectly well once cooler, wetter conditions return.
