Whether it lasts 5 years or 25, that was determined before this photo was taken.

Powder coating performance starts long before the finish is applied.

It starts with pre-treatment. Cleaning and preparing the metal so the coating has something permanent to bond to.

On day one, the difference may be invisible.

18 months later, on a roof in a coastal, industrial or high-traffic environment, it matters.

At Surespan, powder coating is carried out in-house in a controlled environment to a consistent standard across all products.

This project featured a 1900 x 500mm standard roof hatch and a 1050 x 1050mm AOV. Both powder-coated in pale green, combining performance, compliance, and aesthetics.

The USA's first match against Paraguay kicks off at SoFi Stadium, Los Angeles.

SoFi Stadium is a $5 billion, 70,000-seat venue, the first indoor-outdoor stadium ever built. Designed by HKS Architects. One of the most technically complex sports facilities in the world.

Most access ladders look like an afterthought. This one doesn't have to.

The standard ladder gets bolted on at the end of a project. Wrong colour, wrong finish, no thought given to the environment it's going into.

It does the job. Barely.

But access is part of the building. People use it. They see it. Maintenance engineers rely on it for years, sometimes decades.

This one is powder coated in-house to a unique brown colour to match the client's specification.

We think the details that nobody photographs are the ones that matter most.

Wrong AOV type. Wrong fl**ge size. Units that don't fit.

Most of these problems are avoidable before an order is ever placed.

It often takes longer to get to the roof than it does to complete the survey.

On a recent visit, we surveyed 8 openings across 4 roof levels in under 90 minutes. A tape measure, a notepad, and the right questions.

Because it's not just the opening dimensions that matter.

Upstand widths need measuring on all four sides. Nearby parapets, plant equipment and roof structures need checking for clashes with the lid at full opening.

The survey is the part of the process most clients never see.

It's also the part that prevents the conversations nobody wants to have on delivery day.

Not a bad office view for a Tuesday morning.

Lochlan was on site with SE Controls in Birmingham, carrying out a site survey and managed to grab this on the way back down.

Eight openings. Spread Across Four roof levels. Completed under 90 minutes.

The view was a bonus.

Spec Lab 2 # - Have you heard of the substance Intumescent?

Itโ€™s a clever fire protection material๐Ÿ”ฅ

When exposed to extreme heat, intumescent material expands to seal gaps and help block fire and smoke.

We embed intumescent strips into the frames of our fire-rated products.

In the event of a fire, the heat activates the strip, causing it to expand and seal the gap between the door and frame, helping to stop fire and smoke from passing through.

Giving them an extra line of defence.
