🔧 UPVC Door Lock Repair – Balloch

Called out to a property in Balloch where an older UPVC door had developed a problem with its locking mechanism.

The job was initially described as a lock change, but after inspecting and testing the door, it was clear the lock itself wasn't the main problem.

The internal paddle handles were turning freely without operating the mechanism correctly.

With an older door, simply replacing the cylinder would not resolve the fault. The problem needed to be identified first so the homeowner knew exactly what was wrong.

The important part of any door repair is finding the actual fault — not just replacing the part that looks like the problem.

Problems with your multipoint lock?

If your door has become difficult to lock, the handle is stiff, or the key won't turn properly, the multipoint locking mechanism could be the cause.

Common signs of a faulty multipoint lock include:
• Handle won't lift
• Door won't lock when closed
• Key is difficult to turn
• Hooks or rollers aren't engaging
• Lock feels rough or has started sticking

In many cases, the mechanism can be repaired by replacing worn components such as the gearbox, rather than replacing the entire lock.

At A.L.S. Locksmiths, we specialise in diagnosing and repairing multipoint locking systems on uPVC, composite and French doors. We'll identify the fault, explain your options, and carry out the most cost-effective repair.

Is your composite door becoming difficult to lock or unlock?

Many composite door problems are caused by wear in the locking mechanism, door movement, or worn components—not the door itself. In many cases, a repair is all that's needed to get the door working smoothly again.

At A.L.S. Locksmiths, we specialise in composite door repairs, including:
• Multipoint lock repairs
• Gearbox replacement
• Door realignment
• Lock and cylinder replacement
• Handle replacement
• Diagnosing stiff or jammed doors

With over 18 years' experience, we'll identify the cause of the problem and recommend the most cost-effective solution. We repair wherever possible and only replace parts that are genuinely worn or faulty.

Having trouble with your uPVC door handle?

A faulty handle isn't just an inconvenience—it can be an early sign of a bigger problem. If the handle feels loose, won't return properly, or is becoming difficult to lift, it's worth having it checked before it fails completely.

Common causes include:
• Worn or broken springs
• Damaged internal components
• General wear and tear
• An underlying fault with the multipoint locking mechanism

At A.L.S. Locksmiths, we'll diagnose the cause of the problem and only replace the handle if it's genuinely faulty. If the issue lies elsewhere, we'll explain your options and recommend the most cost-effective repair.

HMO lock fitted with keyless egress for improved safety and compliance.

Unlike a standard lock that requires a key to exit, a keyless egress lock allows the door to be unlocked from the inside without using a key. This helps occupants leave the property quickly in an emergency while keeping the door secure from the outside.

These types of locks are commonly used on HMO properties where fire safety is an important consideration.

If you're a landlord or managing agent and need the correct locks fitted to your HMO, A.L.S. Locksmiths can supply and install suitable keyless egress locks and provide honest advice on the best option for your property.

Another HMO lock installation completed.

HMO (House in Multiple Occupation) properties often have specific fire safety and security requirements, so it's important that the correct type of lock is fitted. Choosing the wrong lock can create safety issues or fail to meet the property's requirements.

This property has now been fitted with a suitable HMO lock, providing secure access while helping to ensure the door can be opened quickly from the inside in an emergency.

If you own or manage an HMO and need locks replaced or upgraded, A.L.S. Locksmiths can advise on the most suitable options for your property.
