Recently completed flat roof – Cookham

Recently completed flat roof on a pool house refurbishment in Cookham.

The existing roof covering was showing signs of age and deterioration but hadn’t yet failed. After carrying out checks on the structure and existing build-up, it was confirmed that an overlay system was suitable in this case.

We installed a Danosa single ply system, including:

bespoke fabricated trims to suit the gutter detail

oversized edge trims, as specified by the builder

full attention to detailing around edges and upstands

Overlay systems can be a good solution when the existing roof is sound, but they’re not suitable for every situation — correct assessment is key.

Both the builder and homeowner were happy with the finished result.

🚨 Before You Spend Money on a Roof Repair, It’s Worth Knowing This

Many older roofs can be repaired, but there are a few important factors homeowners often aren’t aware of that affect whether a repair is genuinely cost-effective.

As roofs reach the later stages of their lifespan, natural wear becomes more common:

Felt begins to perish

Battens can weaken

Nails and fixings may corrode

Tiles often become more brittle with age

A repair might solve the immediate issue, but age-related problems nearby can appear later.
Another key point is access — even small repairs often require scaffolding for safety, and this can make up a large part of the cost.

From experience, we regularly see situations where a customer has already spent money on multiple repairs and scaffolding over the years, and the total ends up being similar to — or even more than — what a full re-roof would have cost in the first place. This is a common pattern with roofs that are simply nearing the end of their natural lifespan.

This doesn’t mean a new roof is always needed. Many repairs are absolutely worthwhile and the right choice.
It’s simply about understanding the true condition of the roof and choosing the option that provides the best long-term value, rather than the quickest short-term fix.

SafeHaven Roofing is always happy to assess a roof and explain the options clearly so homeowners can make informed decisions with confidence.

A small job we wrapped up recently 👇

The customer had a new porch added to the front of the house, so we tiled the new structure to match the main roof. While we were there, we also re-tiled the existing dormer — the tiles on it before didn’t really suit the property, so we brought it in line with the rest of the roof using a Wi******er cut for a cleaner, more traditional finish.

Only a couple of days’ work, but it’s made the front of the house look much more consistent.

If you need any roofing bits sorting — advice, repairs, re-tiling, or anything similar — feel free to get in touch.

Another job completed recently 👇

We stripped the old roof on this property, re-felted and re-battened it, and got everything ready for the solar installers to fit their new system. Once the panels were in place, we re-tiled the whole elevation using Marley concrete plain tiles to tie everything back in neatly.

A straightforward job spread over a few days, but the end result looks smart and the new solar setup sits in nicely with the roofline.

If you’ve got roofing work coming up — repairs, re-roofs, prep for solar, or anything similar — feel free to get in touch.

🏠 How to Find a Roofer You Can Truly Trust: A Guide from SafeHaven Roofing

Choosing a roofer can feel daunting, especially if you’re not sure what to look for. At SafeHaven Roofing, we believe that no homeowner should feel intimidated or anxious about asking for proof of qualifications. In fact, it’s your right!

Here’s how to confidently choose the right roofer without any stress:

1️⃣ A good roofer is proud to show their credentials.
If you ever feel awkward about asking for a CSCS card (skilled worker) or an NVQ Level 2 in Roofing (whether it’s Tiling & Slating or Single Ply), remember this: a trustworthy roofer will gladly show you without hesitation. In fact, we often present our credentials right at the start, so you never have to wonder if we’re qualified.

2️⃣ Don’t rely solely on trader websites.
Many “find-a-trader” sites don’t require roofers to prove any qualifications. It’s okay to use them as a starting point, but always ask the roofer directly for proof. We believe you should feel empowered to do that.

3️⃣ Look at real work and real references.
A reputable roofer should happily show you recent photos of jobs like yours, along with before-and-after shots and references. If someone is hesitant, that’s a sign to be cautious.

4️⃣ Make sure the person quoting is involved in the work.
You deserve to know who will actually be on your roof. If it’s not the person you spoke to, that’s worth questioning. We always ensure the person you meet is part of the job.

5️⃣ Don’t be rushed or pressured.
A good roofer will give you the time and information you need to feel confident. If anyone makes you feel rushed, remember: your roof protects your home, and you have every right to take your time choosing the right professional.

**At SafeHaven Roofing, we’re here to make the process easy and stress-free. We show our qualifications upfront so you never have to feel awkward asking. Because protecting what matters most starts with choosing a roofer who cares.

We’re excited to have finished a full roof upgrade at a property in Winchmore Hill, just outside Amersham!

The original roof insulation was outdated and loosely fitted, allowing unnecessary heat loss and posing a condensation risk.
Over the weeks, we carefully upgrading the entire roof structure with a modern, high-performance system:

Sealing the existing polystyrene insulation between rafters with expanding foam to reduce air leakage

Installing mineral wool to block any airflow into the insulation layer, especially at the eaves

Laying SuperFOIL SF40BB insulation over the rafters to create a continuous insulated envelope across the whole property — pitched roofs, dormers, and flat roof areas

Fixing counter battens to support the new tiles and provide essential ventilation above the insulation

This system will dramatically improve energy efficiency, protect against condensation, and future-proof the home for years to come.

Another Small Transformation Completed This Week in Chesham!

We were called in to resolve a long-standing leak that had caused the original fascia and soffit to rot through. After inspecting the damage, we:

Removed the old rotten fascia and soffit

Repaired the affected rafters

Installed new felt support trays to protect against future leaks

Fitted new black half round PVC guttering

Rubbed down and repainted the timber work for a fresh finish

A clean, simple upgrade that now looks the part — and more importantly, works as it should.

If your roofline needs some attention, we offer free inspections and honest advice. Feel free to get in touch or message the page.

We’ve been called out more and more to inspect failed fibreglass flat roofs — and we’re starting to ask: could this be why?

We don’t install GRP ourselves, and this is one of the key reasons. The standard “warm deck” build-up often leaves the top OSB deck — the one the GRP bonds to — above the insulation. That makes it cold. And if warm, moist air makes it up past a poorly sealed vapour barrier, it condenses. The OSB rots. The GRP blisters. And the whole system fails.

These systems are sold off-the-shelf as warm roof solutions — but there’s often little attention paid to vapour control, sealing, or cold bridging. When things go wrong, it’s usually blamed on “poor installation,” but we think the issue runs deeper than that.

Is this really a warm roof, or are we asking for trouble with this detail?

Drop a comment — roofer, builder, or homeowner — we’re open to honest discussion.

Before & After – Lead Canopies in Wokingham

We recently installed new lead coverings to two door canopies on this lovely period property in Wokingham — one brand new, one a replacement after the original lead had failed.

We don’t usually travel this far, but this was for a returning customer who needed a hand — and it was a great chance to jump in on some detailed leadwork, something I don’t always get to do myself these days.

Simple, traditional detailing that ties in well with the building’s style and should last many years to come.
