Milton Keynes City Council Sustainability Strategy 2026 - 2050

Benchmark Architects attended the launch of the Milton Keynes Sustainability Strategy this week at Unity Place.

The strategy outlines the city’s commitment to reaching net zero by 2030, while ensuring sustainability measures also protect and support vulnerable residents.

Plans include cleaner energy, improved energy efficiency, greener transport, and new funding opportunities such as the Green Business Fund to help local businesses reduce emissions.

As architects, we’re proud to support these ambitions through thoughtful, low-carbon design and sustainable building strategies.

Huntingdon Crematorium Achieves Platinum Greener Globe Funeral Standard

We’re proud to share that Huntingdon Crematorium has been awarded the Platinum Greener Globe Funeral Standard, achieving an outstanding score of 97.1%, making it the first crematorium in the UK to reach this level.

Designed by Benchmark Architects, the crematorium was created with sustainability at its core. The use of electric cremators and energy reuse systems helps significantly reduce carbon emissions and improve efficiency.

The project was designed to provide a calm, dignified setting for families while also supporting a more sustainable future.

We’re proud to have contributed to this important milestone in crematorium design.

Adam from Pyro + Echo visited us this week to show a new tile collection from Iris Ceramica, and the colours and textures did not disappoint.

From soft neutrals to bold, high-gloss finishes, it’s exciting to see how material choices can completely transform the look and feel of a space.

We’re always exploring new products and finishes to ensure every project is thoughtfully detailed from the ground up.

Roseland Crematorium Tile Progress

We recently received progress images (thank you Adam!) from site at Roseland Crematorium of the newly installed large-format light grey terrazzo tiles.

After first meeting Pyro + Echo during a CPD session, we worked together to source a floor finish that would feel calm, refined, and timeless.

The subtle aggregate and soft tone help reflect natural light, creating a dignified atmosphere while maintaining a clean, contemporary finish.
It’s great to see the vision taking shape.
