In Cochran's long history apprentices have been a vital part of the business. We've always got a number of apprentices at different stages of their training and today we want to recognise some qualifications amongst the team.

Todd McMath and Daniel Nunes both completed their welding apprenticeships earlier this year and were presented with certificates for their efforts.

Zak Adams completed his pipefitting apprentice and Hayden Shaw and Ross Smith both came to and of their mechanical fitting apprenticeships. All received certificates and we'd like to wish them all the best as they continue to develop in their careers.

It’s International Women in Engineering Day and we have an amazing fact to share on Dame Caroline Haslett…

Whilst many may know of her as the first secretary of the Women’s Engineering Society (WES), first director of the Electrical Association for Women of which she was a joint-founder and a companion of the IEE (now the IET), to us – she was a pioneering force within our organisation back in the first world war.

Caroline joined Cochran in 1914 where she received basic engineering training at our current site in Annan. It was from this point in 1919 that she went on to further develop her interest in engineering.

Following the second world war Caroline was appointed the sole woman and safety expert on a government committee tasked with redesigning Britain's electrical infrastructure.

You can read more on Dame Caroline Haslett in the IET Archives and also a BBC Bitesize video that can be shared with younger audiences. https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/articles/z3rxm39

We are incredibly proud to have Dame Caroline Haslett as part of our story. What she accomplished is incredible and paved the way for future generations of women in engineering.
