This is a great article but can be summed up in one word - VENTILATE!. We've become obsessed with insulation, draughtproofing and wearing teeshirts! The result is mildew and damp. Open windows now and again, let air move round your house and wear a jumper in winter! 😁

Glad I'm working and not sailing today. Wild and wet for a while in Craobh this afternoon. Still beautiful, though.

Familiar? That's right - the cupboard under the kitchen sink. Why do we hoard cleaning stuff and let that cupboard be a mess? Only time it will be emptied is when the plumber needs in! 😂😂

Galvanised rhone hooks (the hammer is to show scale)! I was tasked to make these when aged 12, or so. 😄 Galvanised iron strap was bought in 20 foot lengths and I would cut, shape and hole them. The anvil and former was easy to use but the guillotine and hole punch needed all my weight to do their job.

Last week I refreshed my certification relating to Legionella bacteria. As a result, I can continue to survey systems and offer advice.

On the subject of gas. Colinsburgh was indeed one of the first communites in Scotland to use town gas. I've attached a photo of the only remaining lamp posts. Zoom in and read the new notice. Our old workshops and the yard next door were the site of that gas works.
I guess Colinsburgh was either innovative or dispensible.

An aside from plumbing! I was fed a photo of Brent A oil rig this morning and that made me look for more. I worked in the design office while the 'jacket' was built in Methil. It was massive and the construction techniques were innovative. Built on it's side, and floated to it's location, where the flotation legs were flooded to make it tip and sink. A few photos are attached.

Some might recognise this as the back of Randolph Crescent in Edinburgh. I've been sent this photo showing scaffold on one property. We had no such luxury when lining a chimney there some 48 years ago. Myself and another pulled 70 feet of stainless steel liner up the outside chimney while standing abreast the pot - totally unsecured!🤔 Thanks, Dad!😂
