The other side of Portal ❤️

Most of what you see on here is kitchens, spray guns, prep work and finished transformations.

But this lot are the real reason behind it all.

Running a business can be brilliant, but it can also be stressful. Jobs don’t always go to plan, days run longer than expected and sometimes you get home wondering why you decided working for yourself was such a good idea 😂

Then I walk through the door to these lot.

I’m incredibly lucky to have a family like this to come home to at the end of a long day, and ultimately they’re the biggest driving force behind everything I’m trying to build with Portal.

The business has grown a lot over the years, and I’ve got plenty more I want to achieve with it, but the reason behind it has always stayed pretty simple.

To build something I’m proud of and create a good life for my family.

So although you normally see the finished kitchens on this page, this is the other side of Portal.

And probably the most important one. ❤️

Think your kitchen is too damaged to be spray painted?

Quite often, customers come to us thinking their kitchen has gone too far and that replacement is the only option.

But spraying is only part of what we do.

With around 15 years of experience in decorating, preparation and repair work, we know how to deal with damaged surfaces properly before any paint goes near them.

Chips, dents, damaged edges, swollen areas, old screw holes and general wear can often be repaired, filled, reshaped and prepared to give us a solid surface to work with.

The important part is knowing what products to use, how to prepare each surface and when something needs repairing rather than simply painting over it.

A great spray finish starts long before the spray gun comes out.

So before writing your kitchen off and spending thousands replacing it, it may be worth seeing what can actually be saved.

Send us a few photos of your kitchen and we can let you know what’s possible.

A complete kitchen transformation without the cost or disruption of ripping everything out.

We professionally prepared and resprayed the existing kitchen, giving it a fresh, modern finish and a completely different feel.

Same kitchen.
Completely new look.

If your kitchen is looking a little tired but still in good condition, a respray could be all it needs.

We don’t turn your kitchen into a spray booth.

One of the things that makes our process different is that we take as much of the kitchen away as possible to be prepared and sprayed in our workshop.

Doors, drawer fronts and other removable parts are taken back to our workshop, where they can be properly prepared and professionally sprayed in a controlled environment.

That means your home isn’t covered in sheeting and masking for days on end, and we’re not spraying removable parts right in the middle of your kitchen.

The fixed parts still need to be prepared and finished on site, of course, but by removing everything we can, we keep disruption, overspray and mess to a minimum.

The aim is simple, to let you carry on using your kitchen as normally as possible throughout the process.

So while your kitchen is being transformed, you can still make a cup of tea, sort dinner and get on with family life.

A new look kitchen without putting your home on hold.

“How durable is the finish?”

It’s probably one of the most common questions we get asked and it’s a fair one.

Being a dad of 3 and having 2 dogs, we’ve got a pretty busy house, so I know exactly what a kitchen finish has to put up with.

Sticky fingers, food splashes, muddy paws, wet dogs shaking off, toys knocking into doors and cabinets being wiped down constantly.

A kitchen isn’t a showroom, it’s one of the hardest working rooms in the house.

That’s why durability starts long before we pick up the spray gun.

Every kitchen is thoroughly degreased, sanded and prepared before any coating is applied. Doors and drawer fronts are removed and sprayed at our workshop using professional coatings designed specifically for kitchens and furniture.

The result is a smooth, hard wearing finish designed to cope with real family life.

And because we’re confident in the process, our kitchen resprays come with a 3-year guarantee.

So yes… we understand exactly what your kitchen needs to survive. 😂

Spraying is the eay part

When people think about having their kitchen resprayed, they naturally focus on the spraying and the finished colour.

But the spray gun is the fun part. The real work is everything that happens before it.

A professional kitchen respray is all about the preparation:

• Thorough degreasing to remove years of cooking oils and contamination

• Sanding every surface properly

• Filling and repairing damaged areas

• Removing silicone where required and making good

• Carefully masking and protecting your kitchen and home

• Priming, checking, sanding again and only then applying the finish coats

And importantly, we don’t want to turn your home into a spray booth.

Wherever possible, we remove your doors, drawer fronts and anything else that can be taken away. These are prepared and sprayed properly at our workshop in our dedicated spray booth.

That means less spraying, less masking and less disruption inside your home.

We only spray the parts of the kitchen that physically can’t be removed, carefully protecting the surrounding areas while we work.

At the end of each day we remove what we need to so that you still have full access to your kitchen every evening.

A great kitchen respray isn’t just about being able to spray paint.

It’s about everything you do before you pick the spray gun up.

This kitchen in Fleet is a great example of how much colour can change the whole feel of a room.

The original oak units were solid, well made and still in really good condition, but the amount of natural wood was starting to make the kitchen feel quite dated.

Rather than replacing everything, the customer chose to keep the existing kitchen and go for a deep, modern green instead.

It’s completely changed the space. The darker colour gives the cabinetry much more depth, while the light worktops, flooring and natural light stop it from feeling heavy.

What I like most about this one is that it still feels like the same kitchen just a much more modern version of it.

A good reminder that if the layout works and the cabinets are good quality, you don’t always need a brand new kitchen to make a big difference.

It’s amazing how much difference a front door can make to the feel of a home.

This one in Wokingham was originally a very dark brown which, although still in great condition, was starting to make the entrance feel a little dated and heavy.

Rather than replacing a perfectly good door, the customer chose a much softer, modern green instead.

The change has completely lifted the entrance. It feels brighter, fresher and far more welcoming, while still keeping all of the original door, glazing and character.

Front doors are one of those things you see every single day, so even a simple colour change can make the whole front of the house feel different.

A nice example of how you don’t always need to replace something to completely change the way it looks.
