A nice feature taking shape at our ongoing project in Kilmelford.

As part of this renovation project, we’ve been working on a bespoke stair and built-in bookcase feature, designed between the client and contractor to create a practical but eye-catching part of the home.

The bookcase has been built on site, with oak shelving details and built-in recessed lighting to each opening. The stair itself was ordered in and then built on site, with oak used throughout to give it a strong, natural finish.

It’s not fully complete yet, with the front porch and landscaping still to finish, but it’s already coming together really nicely. The lighting makes a big difference and helps turn the bookcase into more of a feature wall, rather than just storage.

This is the kind of detail that can really change the feel of a space, combining practical joinery, display shelving, lighting and a finished look that suits the home.

Looking forward to seeing this one fully completed.

A nice one to look back on in Kilberry.

This was a new passive house build we completed over around 6 months, built beside the homeowner’s existing older house. Once the new build was finished, the original house was taken down, leaving them with a much more modern, energy-efficient home.

The goal from the start was simple really, to give them a nice new house that was warmer, more efficient, more modern, and better suited to day-to-day life.

From start to finish we carried out the full job, and thankfully it all went fairly smoothly with no major issues along the way.

What stands out most on this one is just the way it turned out. It’s made a huge difference to the homeowner in terms of comfort, layout, natural light, and overall living space, and these are the kind of projects that are always rewarding to be part of.

Always good to see a local project come together like this.

A nice one finished recently in Ardrishaig.

This was a full bathroom strip-out and replacement, turning the old space into a much more practical new shower room for the client.

The main aim here was to make the room easier to use day to day, so the bath came out and we fitted a corner shower, new vanity unit and basin, and a raised toilet, along with alterations to the plumbing and electrics to make the new layout work properly.

We also redone the walls and ceiling using Respatex wall panels and plastic ceiling panels, which gave it a really clean finish and should keep things easy to maintain going forward.

This one took around a week to complete as there was a fair bit to alter first, but the end result has completely changed the room and the client is really pleased with it.

Always good to finish a job that not only looks better, but works much better for the customer too.

⚠️Why building projects sometimes run late

From our experience, the biggest cause of delays is changes being made after work has already started.

Even small changes can have a knock-on effect once materials are ordered and work is underway.

Best advice:

- Take time planning at the start

- Finalise decisions before work begins

- Ask questions early

It saves time and money in the long run.

Nice to see another local project underway in Argyll this week 👷‍♂️

We’ve recently started a two-storey extension and renovation on an existing home. The aim for the homeowners is to modernise the property, improve energy efficiency and make the most of the views.

This one will include a new open-plan living space and sunroom, along with a side utility extension. The structure is a steel and timber frame build and will have large windows to bring in as much natural light as possible.

At the moment we’re working through the early structural stages and you’ll probably see a bit of activity over the next few months while we get it weather tight.

We always enjoy projects like this as it really changes how a house is used day to day, especially for families wanting more space rather than moving.

If anyone is curious about extensions or renovations locally, feel free to get in touch and I’ll happily give advice where I can.
