Couldn’t be done apparently.
Turns out it could.

An entire roof plane removed.
Whilst the new structural engineer simultaneously reduced the o/all quantity of previously designed steelwork by 80% throughout the build.

More usable floor space, less cost.

A little 3D technical study for a project that’s now under construction.

We brought in a second structural engineer to explore whether the design could be simplified and made more cost-effective. The original engineering solution included four steel posts, two steel beams and a galvanised steel frame forming the feature fin.

This felt excessive.
The revised solution?

Engineered joists and a 215mm blockwork fin — with no structural steel required.
A great example of how thoughtful coordination and a fresh perspective can simplify construction without compromising the design intent.
