Who says a fireplace hearth has to be plain? 👀
We love how Instagrammer has transformed this once rather dated fireplace into a real feature of the room — and our tiles play a starring role. 🤍🖤
With Halloween just around the corner, Sarah has given her non-working fireplace a suitably spooky makeover with skeletons, pumpkins and plenty of character. 🎃💀
But look beyond the Halloween styling and there’s a great tile design idea here that could work all year round…
✨ A classic chequerboard pattern creates impact across the hearth, while using one of the darker colours from the pattern to create a border with rectangular tiles gives the whole design a beautifully considered finish.
It’s a great example of how you can play with pattern, colour and tile format to create something much more individual than simply laying one tile throughout.
And, importantly, if you have a working fireplace, always check that the tiles you choose are suitable for use around heat and for your particular fireplace installation. 🔥

Tile size can completely change the feel of a room.
From small-format tiles that add character and pattern, to large formats that create a more streamlined, contemporary look, the size you choose is an important part of the overall design.
But there isn't a simple rule that says small rooms need small tiles or large rooms need large ones.
When choosing your format, consider:
• The size and shape of the room
• Your layout and where cuts will fall
• The look you're trying to create
• How the tile pattern will work across the space
• How much grout you want to see
And don't forget that how a tile is laid can be just as important as the tile itself. A different orientation, pattern or starting point can change the finished look considerably.

Choosing a tile you love is the easy part. Choosing one that works for your space is where it gets interesting…
Before you order, there are a few things worth considering:
1. Where is it going?
A wall tile, floor tile, bathroom tile or outdoor tile will all have different practical requirements.
2. How does the space need to perform?
Think about durability, slip resistance, maintenance and how much everyday use the space will get.
3. What look are you trying to create?
Colour, size, pattern, texture and finish can completely change the feel of a room — so think about how your tile will work with your other materials and finishes.
4. Have you ordered a sample?
This is one of the most important steps. A tile can look very different depending on your room, natural light and what you put alongside it.
Our advice? Don't choose from a screen alone. See your options in person, compare them and take samples home or order samples online.

This dramatic powder room makeover by is proof that you don’t have to play it safe with a small space.
Soula has completely transformed her powder room into a warm, atmospheric jewel-box space, combining rich colour, graphic pattern and natural texture to create something that feels both luxurious and full of personality.
At the heart of the scheme are two of our favourites:
🖤 Our Fired Earth Bert & May Old Iron Split Shift tiles – used as a statement splashback behind the bespoke vanity, adding pattern, movement and a beautifully considered focal point.
