There’s something about going through old paperwork and memorabilia that really brings things into perspective.

I recently came across a contract dated January 1977 — before I was even born — along with site profitability records from 1984/85, and even a trophy from the days when we used to play annual cricket matches against Bovis Homes.

It’s a reminder that the roots of what we do today run much deeper than most people realise.

Our journey in this industry started with Gatmay Ltd — my dad’s company — and those early foundations have shaped everything that followed.

Fast forward to today, and it’s great to still be connected to that same lineage through businesses like Beverley Homes.

Different names, evolving businesses, but the same core values, relationships, and passion for building.

Sometimes looking back is the best way to appreciate how far things have come — and where they’re heading next.

One of our favourite types of projects has always been care homes.

There’s something genuinely rewarding about creating spaces that feel warm, safe, and inviting—places people can truly call home. It’s also where we get to be at our most creative, working closely on design features that bring personality and comfort into every detail.

We completed our very first care home back in 1999, and all these years later, we still love every opportunity to work on them. The change of pace, the collaboration on design, and the chance to make a real difference—it’s what keeps us passionate about what we do.

In an industry that’s fast-paced, high-pressure, and physically demanding, it’s more important than ever that we look out for one another.

Building structures is what we do — but building a culture where it’s okay to talk, check in, and ask for support is just as important. By recognising the signs, starting conversations, and creating safer spaces, we can make a real difference to the wellbeing of our teams.

🔊🏗️ Acoustic Upgrade in Progress – Warehouse Office Fit-Out

Creating functional office space within a noisy warehouse environment comes with its challenges — and acoustic performance was a key priority for our client on this project.

To achieve the required sound reduction, we’re implementing a combination of solutions including decoupling the existing first floor from the new ground floor offices, installing independent wall systems, and incorporating high-performance acoustic insulation throughout. By combining multiple systems, we’re able to significantly improve the working environment while maintaining the operational needs of the warehouse.

Great to see the works now taking shape on site as the new office spaces start to come together.

We’re delighted to see works progressing so smoothly under blue skies — always a great boost for the whole team on site.

It’s especially meaningful to be delivering this project for Beverley Homes, our oldest customer, who we’ve proudly partnered with since our inception 36 years ago. Long-standing relationships like this are at the heart of what we do, and we’re grateful for the continued trust and collaboration.

We’re proud to announce the start of works on one of the largest contracts we have ever been awarded — the innovative Hampden Fields ES3 & EN4 development in Aylesbury for Taylor Wimpey.

It’s a fantastic milestone for our team and a testament to the trust placed in us to deliver at scale, with quality and innovation at the forefront.

We’re especially pleased to be working once again alongside the NHBC award-winning team led by Kieran Riordan, continuing a strong partnership built on performance, collaboration and shared standards of excellence.

This week we’re proud to celebrate the incredible women helping to shape the future of construction. At Thistlebrook Drylining, we recognise the skill, dedication and leadership that women bring to our sites, offices and projects every single day.

When I first started in the industry back in 1999, it was a very different place. Seeing women on site was rare, opportunities were limited and the support simply wasn’t there in the way it is today. Fast forward to now, and it’s inspiring to see just how far the industry has come — with more women building successful careers across every part of construction.

From setting out to final finishes, their contribution is essential to delivering quality work and driving our industry forward.

We’re committed to creating opportunities, supporting career development and continuing to help create a more inclusive construction sector for the next generation.
