Anyone in Scotland can call themselves an electrician. No qualifications, no training, no accountability. The title isn't protected in law.
As someone who's put in the years of training and works to the standards the job demands, I think that's wrong. It's a risk to families, homes and businesses, and it undercuts the folk who do the job properly.
SELECT have submitted a petition to the Scottish Parliament calling for statutory regulation of electricians and protection of the title "Electrician", so that anyone doing electrical work is properly qualified, competent and accountable.
It takes a minute to sign, and you don't need to be in the trade. If you've ever had a house wired, a fuse board changed or a light fitted, this affects you.
