Please be aware. Maintenance is being carried out on the walls this week 24th August. Areas of the castle will be cordoned off for everyones safety during this time. We are still open but ask you all to enjoy your visit but be mindful of the barriers.

Last week, the Scottish Government announced a £3 million fund to support those affected by the Cairngorms wildfire, which is now being administered by The Highland Council.
Our hearts go out particularly to the many local businesses that have lost a far greater proportion of their income during what should be their busiest time of year, and to everyone in the Glenmore corridor who had to leave their homes and businesses during the evacuation.
It has been an extraordinarily difficult time for our whole area.
Castle Roy has also felt the effects. We estimate that the wildfire has cost us the equivalent of around 10% of our annual expenditure, through cancelled events and a significant drop in visitor numbers.
We understand that Castle Roy will not be eligible for any of the Scottish Government funding, but unfortunately our bills carry on! Insurance, maintenance, accountancy, electricity, our website and all the other costs involved in looking after this wonderful old castle still have to be paid.
But helping us doesn’t have to mean simply making a donation. You could hold an event here or, by acquiring a Square Yard of Castle Roy, you are helping to look after the castle while getting something in return: your own little piece of Castle Roy, complete with a certificate. It can be in your own name, or make a rather unusual gift for someone special.

We're still very much open! 😊 However, motorhome visitors, please note that the Community Centre Elsan point is temporarily unavailable while the building is being used as the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) headquarters.
So, while that is closed, a reminder that full motorhome facilities are available at Garlyne Brae, only 2 miles away. The site is open to passing motorhomes, so you're very welcome to use its facilities. I do not know the cost.

Unfortunately, due to the ongoing Cairngorms wildfire and the emergency response, we have made the difficult decision to cancel the Castle Roy Car Boot Sale on Saturday 2 August.
The safety of our visitors, volunteers and the emergency services must come first, and we feel this is the most responsible course of action.
We sincerely apologise to everyone who was planning to come along, whether to sell, browse or support Castle Roy. Thank you for your understanding.
Our thoughts are with everyone affected by the fire, and we are incredibly grateful to all the firefighters and emergency services working tirelessly to protect our communities and countryside.
Our final Car Boot Sale of the year will take place on Sunday 6 September, and we very much hope you'll be able to join us then. We'll also have refreshments available, so do come along for a browse, a bargain, and a cuppa while supporting Castle Roy.

**UPDATE 22:20 on 25 July

After a huge collective firefighting effort over the past 24 hours, Police Scotland and the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service have confirmed that residents of Nethy Bridge can now return to their properties.

As we have seen over recent days, this is still an evolving situation and activity on the ground will continue apace tomorrow, with multiple helicopters, fire crews, gamekeepers and others on site, assisted by thermal drone operators from the Park Authority.

We are very touched by the number of people getting in touch to check that we are safe. We are, thank you. Luckily the wind was blowing away from the village or we would all have been in the deep stuff. 🤔

This is so sad😥so much beautiful landscape destroyed. Whatever caused it, natural or man made, it is an ecological disaster for the area. This is part of a favourite walk and it has been an incredible effort, with so many volunteers and local businesses supporting them, to stop it spreading further.
The other point is that last year we had a far bigger fire to the North. The ONLY fire in the UK ever to be designated a Megafire. Yet no one heard about it. The interest in this one is obviously because it is a well known area but remember that this can happen anywhere.

Please do not light any sort of fire, or discard a cigarette out of your car window. Even cold cigarette butts kill wildlife, so keep them safe in a container, not thrown to the floor.
