🔥 NEVER A DULL DAY AT COTTAGE OAK 🔥
Another important fire-door upgrade completed with Todd Doors
The loft space at this property was created many years ago. During our recent work, we looked at the first-floor internal doors and identified that the existing doors and hardware required upgrading to bring them in line with the recommendations of BS 8214:2026, the British Standard code of practice for fire-resisting and smoke-control doors.
We carried out a number of important improvements:
- New fire-rated hinges were fitted and correctly routed into the doors.
- The existing door stops were removed from the frames.
- New 25mm x 32mm door stops were fitted.
- Locks and latches were checked to ensure appropriate fire-rated hardware was being used.
- Fire-intumescent strips were installed into the doors to help protect the gaps between the door and frame in the event of a fire.
Why are fire doors so important?
A fire door isn’t simply a door that looks fire-rated. The door, frame, hinges, locks, latches, intumescent seals and gaps all work together as part of the fire-resisting doorset.
When correctly installed and maintained, a fire door can help slow the spread of fire and smoke, protect escape routes and give people more valuable time to evacuate safely.
And this is something we feel is important to highlight:
Fire safety shouldn’t only matter when a job is being inspected or signed off.
Even where works aren’t subject to a formal sign-off, the purpose of upgrading a fire door is ultimately about protecting people and property if a fire occurs. It’s about making sure that, when you need that door to perform, you’ve given it the best possible chance of doing its job.
That’s why we don’t just look at the door leaf. We look at the complete setup — hinges, frames, stops, locks, latches, seals and the overall condition of the door.
The work is now complete, giving the customer that extra reassurance and peace of mind that their first-floor doors have been properly upgraded with fire safety in mind. 🔥🚪✅
Safety isn’t about ticking a box. It’s about being prepared for the moment you hope never happens.
