We'd like to wish a warm welcome to Andrew Hadden, who joins the Denham Youd team as an Associate.

Andrew is a chartered architect with experience of working across a range of sectors and on projects of varying scales. He is the current President of the Glasgow Institute of Architects and has also undertaken the roles of Vice President, Convenor of Architecture People + Places, and Convenor of Glasgow Urban Design Panel. He has a post graduate degree in Advanced Sustainable Urban Design and is a believer in teamwork and collaboration to deliver the best outcomes.

Outside of work Andrew enjoys spending time with family and friends, and in the past he has spent a lot of time traveling including an Interrailing trip across Europe and a round the world backpacking adventure.

Part 3 success! Congratulations to Ryan Dyer, who recently passed his Part 3 exam to register as a fully qualified architect. 

Ryan brings a wealth of experience to the team working across various sectors in projects based in Scotland, Jersey and Jamaica. Since joining Denham Youd, Ryan has applied his knowledge to many projects notably Barlia Football centre, delivered last year. 

This is a great achievement and an important milestone, which is so well deserved following a lot of hard work and focus. We look forward to see you continue to thrive.

Planning lodged for new Padel Courts!

We’ve been working closely with and design four covered courts and a clubhouse, bringing one of the fastest growing sports to South Ayrshire.

As part of the wider Railway End Development at Somerset Park, this opens up an exciting chapter towards creating a new hub for the sport and the local community.

We rounded off January with a Jamaican themed team evening, hosted by our colleague Ryan, who hails from Jamaica.

We were treated to some excellent traditional dishes, accompanied by drinks from Jamaica as well as another island tipple from . The night continued with a quiz and presentation, where we learned about the geography, culture and history of Jamaica, alongside a few competitive games of table tennis!

A great night was had by all, and Ryan has proven he’ll be a tough act to follow for the next team social.

This year Denham Youd moved into our new studio, marking an exciting milestone for the practice and the culmination of our team’s hard work and ambition. We celebrated with a lovely team evening out, reminiscing on the past year and looking forward for what the year ahead has in store!

On behalf of everyone at Denham Youd, we would like to wish all of our clients, consultants, and colleagues a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

As well as our recent office move Denham Youd have welcomed some new and returning members to the team!

Emma joins us as a Part 1 Architectural Assistant after graduating this summer from Robert Gordon University. She
brings with her a strong passion for sustainability and net-zero design, which she applies to create spaces that support both the wellbeing of the planet and the people who use them. Outside the studio, Emma’s love for architecture continues through her travels, where she enjoys exploring different architectural styles, her favourite being the baroque architecture of Italy.

We are also pleased to welcome Cian back to Denham Youd after completing his Master’s Degree at Strathclyde University. Cian brings a strong interest in the human side of architecture to the practice. His thesis explored how
architecture can help bring people together in communities where differences in background, opportunity, and culture have made genuine connection more difficult. He focused on how we can connect on a human level, beyond language or social barriers. In his free time, Cian is passionate about watersports, including sailing and surfing, and has recently taken up kitesurfing.

ONE FROM THE ARCHIVES - BIOTECHNOLOGY CAMPUS.

As we update our project portfolio, we’ve taken the opportunity to revisit some notable work from our archives.

For this project we designed a proposal looking at a major expansion of a large Biotechnology campus based in Ayrshire. The proposal consisted of a major expansion of the current site facilities and an er****on of a new building of around 50, 000 sq ft.

Our design balances innovation with sensitivity to its historic woodland surroundings. Sustainability and respect for the site’s conservation status were central to our approach, ensuring the expansion enhances both the campus and its environment.

Team Denham Youd are excited to announce we have moved into our new studio. You can now find us at

Planning Submitted!

We recently submitted planning for this private family home on the Isle of Arran. The proposal for this family house puts sustainability at the forefront of its design, as well as creating a home with distinct character while safeguarding and enhancing the rural area on the Island.

A key focus of this project was to design a home which celebrates the outdoors, it sits on the beachfront and has fantastic coastal views. We wanted to embrace the natural elements of the site, in a home where the living and outdoor functions are equally important.

We would like to introduce Ailsa, Chloe and James, who have recently joined the Denham Youd team!

Ailsa joins us as a Part 1 Architectural Assistant after recently graduating from her Architectural Studies Undergraduate Degree at the University of Strathclyde. Ailsa joins the team with experience from a summer internship at a timber frame housing company. Though originally from a small town in the Scottish Borders, Ailsa is named after one of our local Landmarks, the Ailsa Craig. In her free time Ailsa can be found playing hockey and was captain of her university team.

Chloe recently completed her Masters degree at University of Strathclyde and joins us as a Part 2 Architectural Assistant. She has a strong interest in the meaningful conservation of the built environment, with a focus on enhancing a sense of place and supporting wellbeing within communities. Outside of work, Chloe enjoys taking a wander and exploring her creativity through experimenting with paints and oil pastels.

James joins us as a summer intern, assisting the team on a range of projects while gaining valuable experience before heading off to college in Ayr at the end of the summer, where he will study to become an architectural technician. When James isn’t in the office, he can be found out on the farm, playing football, or getting involved with the Young Farmers.

Project Spotlight!

Located in North Ayrshire, this contemporary family home utilises the site to its full potential, taking the opportunity to maximise the coastal views to the west, over the Firth of Clyde and towards the Isle of Arran.

As the site is nestled between a cluster of other residential homes the layout and orientation of the house has been carefully considered. A key part of the design process was to ensure the new home harmonised with the materiality of the adjacent properties, creating a home that feels contemporary whilst still rooted in its local context.
