and that the traditional architect's working method does not always measure up to the individual homeowner's needs. As such, CASA Design constantly endeavours to set out and agree on the exact architectural services required by a householder at the outset, allowing customers to control what they want to achieve with their project and how much they want to spend. We aim to offer more than just a 'set of drawings' by guiding clients through the complete design and building process, working together to produce a high quality, bespoke piece of architecture. Our portfolio of work emphasizes the diversity of design skills we can offer. We consciously avoid a prescriptive style, with each project based on rigorous analysis of the client's requirements, the site and contextual references. The principal architect Chris Stewart has several years of experience as a Chartered Architect since qualifying from the Mackintosh School of Architecture at the University of Glasgow in 1988. He has worked in both the UK for Sir Norman Foster and Partners and abroad on many commercial, educational and residential projects. A key element of our approach is sustainable and innovative design. CASA Design combines the best qualities of an agile, innovative team with the experience, depth and knowledge of a large practice, enabling it to undertake both small domestic work and advanced, complex projects. Our approach to design integrates the principles of energy efficiency, which reduces a building’s ecological footprint. We consider the current various types of micro-renewable energies available such as air source heat pumps, ground source heat pumps, photovoltaic solar panels as the primary energy alongside the basics of high-quality insulation, thermal bridging, airtightness and space heating.

We’re excited to share one of our latest designs – a small rural home in Ayrshire, created by reusing part of an old barn.

The design combines the character of the original stonework with contemporary timber cladding and glazing, striking a balance between old and new. Inside, the home is light-filled and spacious, with vaulted ceilings and an open-plan layout that frames views of the surrounding countryside.

Sustainability and sensitivity to place were at the heart of this project – retaining the barn’s fabric while introducing a modern, efficient, and comfortable living environment.
