Not All Cockroaches Are Pests!
We recently had an interesting enquiry from a customer who was concerned about spotting what she believed were German cockroaches in her home. However, something didn't quite add up!
She had only spotted one or two in her kitchen and bathroom. German cockroach infestations typically involve much larger numbers, particularly in kitchens. Based on her description, we suspected it could actually be a Dusky Cockroach, a native British species.
After showing her a photograph, she agreed it looked very similar. A few days later, she sent us this picture, confirming our suspicions!
Unlike German cockroaches, Dusky Cockroaches are generally harmless visitors that occasionally wander indoors. They don't typically establish infestations inside homes, meaning pest control treatment isn't necessary.
Instead, we recommended cutting back decaying vegetation around the property to help discourage them from entering.Sometimes, correctly identifying the species is all it takes to put a customer's mind at ease.
