ZAPPI GLO EV Charger review
As an electrician, I wanted to share my perspective on the unit and its setup.
The zappi is clearly designed with the installer in mind—it’s packed with safety features that genuinely simplify the install and speed up the job.
🛠️ Professional Take: Easy Installation & Commissioning
The overall installation and commissioning process was surprisingly streamlined and efficient.
Safety Integration: The built-in PEN protection is a major time-saver, eliminating the need for an earth rod in most domestic installations, which immediately reduces complexity and materials.
Simple Commissioning: The process of getting the unit connected and configured via the dedicated installer app is very quick. Setting up the CT clamps, configuring grid import limits, and pairing with the myenergi devices (if any) is all highly intuitive and menu-driven.
Built-in RCD: Having the built-in 30mA Type A RCD and 6mA DC RCD means one less component to install and worry about in the consumer unit.
📶 A Note on Connectivity (From an Installer's View)
One thing that installers should be aware of, particularly when planning the job, is the connectivity setup.
The zappi glo relies entirely on Wi-Fi and the 868MHz radio link (for communicating with other myenergi devices) for network connectivity.
There is no hardwired RJ45 (ethernet) port available on the zappi glo model. This is a crucial distinction.
While Wi-Fi is fine for many homes, if the unit is located far from the router, or if the customer prefers the stability of a hardwired connection for critical smart functionality, you need to budget for and install a dedicated solution (like a Wi-Fi extender with an Ethernet port or a Powerline adapter).

Overall, the zappi glo is a high-quality, smart, and installer-friendly unit. Its key benefit is the native solar/wind compatibility and the integrated safety features. It's an excellent product to recommend to customers, especially those with—or planning to install—microgeneration.
