Returning home i worked in The Bothy but after deciding that i was staying in Ballater and catering wasn't for me I quit this job just before the flood of December 2015. Getting involved in t

he clean up quickly evolved into paid work and before long it became clear that there was more than a passing need for another local painter. Since late 2016 i have been doing this full time.

Its been hot weather to be working up a cherry picker. At least there is some change to be seen in the fascias and gutters. Thanks to joiner Ryan Mitchell for the short notice replacement of some rotten mouldings.

This Dormer had seen better days. Fortunately its south facing and there was little rot other than in the window frames themsleves. The top window had a deep pocket of rot, i removed this with a straight grinder and a carbide bit, then treated the rot with preservative left for a few days of sun and went back with epoxy. The lower window had lots of cracked putty but also some rotten glazing bars, thanks to Danny Muir Joinery for fixing those. And for his other efforts on this job.

First exterior of the season has mainly be stripping a lot of windows and some large fascias so far. Have been aiming to get all the 'dead' putty replaced and all the knackered paint removed and surfaces primed. After that it just a lot of painting to do!

Last interior job for a while, this was towards the end of April. Mainly i was stripping woodchip from three bedrooms and lining the walls. But there where some wooden tounge and groove, formerly varnished that had been emulsioned over. Please dont do this. It makes the job of painting it properly, so much more work. It all needs to be sanded back because the emulsion dosent bind to the surface and anything you put on top will be prone to chipping. Once sanded back it was stain blocked with a shellac primer to kill the knots, and then painted in dulux diamond eggshell to match the kitchen units.
