Spiders and CCTV
Spiders webs across the lenses

Most effective way I've found to date
is with a silicon spray or Vaseline covering the camera body
(stay away from the lens)

There are spider sprays on the market which use insecticides.
But rain washes the coating away

Finally strong smells
EG: peppermint, citrus oils soaked on a clothe
then attached to the camera, again rain renders this pretty useless

Camera system type, resolution and compare analogue with IP
Consider lens size, and image target
Select camera position and the lighting available at night

Hikvision Motion Detection

You can set the time periods you want motion detection to happen or set for 24/7
Selecting the area for motion detection is important E.g.(If you have a tree blowing in the background, which is constantly triggering off the camera)
you would exclude it from motion detection
Settings are set for each camera
Sensitivity of the camera’s motion detection is adjustable
DVR looks at individual image frames and compares them to the previous one. If it sees differences then motion is assumed to have taken place
Each alarm triggered by motion detection can be set to go to your email, mobile, tablet, Etc.

Privacy mask allows you to "block" or remove certain areas of a scene from the camera's view. Which is not visible in either the Live View of the camera or the recorded footage
It masks user-defined areas with a black, empty area.
Hikvision masks with black rectangles only.

There are a number of instances where this might be useful to you. For example, one of your cameras may be watching down the side of your house, but unfortunately may also have vision of one of your neighbor’s windows or garden - a privacy mask will allow you to block this area from your scene
If the camera looks over the neighbor’s property this can resolve the problem.

Hikvision cameras and NVRs allow you to configure up to 4 privacy masks per camera

Power over Coaxial (PoC) basically means that power for the camera is supplied by the DVR via coaxial video cable (RG59 or similar), this removes the requirement for separate cables and power supplies which would otherwise be needed to power your cameras.
