🚧 Project Update – Wren Hall 🚧

One year on from commencing works at EGL2 Wren Hall, progress continues on one of the UK's most significant energy infrastructure projects.

Completion of the 24m-high slipform fire walls was achieved in February 2026. Since then, the Converter Building foundations have been completed, enabling structural steelwork to progress within the DC Hall of Converter Building 1.

Having completed the in-situ concrete edge beams to the Operations Building, we are now preparing to construct the ground slabs for both the Operations and Spares Buildings. Edge beam construction to the Converter Buildings is also due to commence later this month.

Last month, works began on the Spare Transformer structure with the successful completion of the 700mm-thick base slab and 1.9m-high bund walls. Additional structures remain under review as we continue to support BAM in delivering the wider programme.

⚡ Eastern Green Link 2 (EGL2) is a 525kV HVDC subsea transmission link connecting Peterhead in Scotland to Drax in England. With a capacity of 2GW, the scheme will be capable of powering up to two million homes and represents the UK's largest electricity transmission project to date.

Appointed by BAM UK & Ireland, Cidon Group is delivering the service buildings package, transformer and converter buildings, and associated structures.

Delivered as a joint venture between National Grid and SSEN Transmission, EGL2 is being constructed through the collaborative efforts of BAM UK & Ireland, Hitachi Energy and Cidon Group.

Progress continues at The Republic, Mayfield in Manchester city centre, where Cidon is delivering the reinforced concrete package for this flagship commercial development.

The project has recently achieved a number of key milestones, including completion of the bespoke waffle slab formwork to the mezzanine level. The concrete frame is now progressing well through Level 4, with works continuing to gain momentum on site.

Our scope includes the substructure and ground floor slabs, mezzanine suspended slabs, and the full reinforced concrete superstructure for the new 230,000 sq ft, 12-storey office building located within the award-winning Mayfield Park development.

Ground floor and mezzanine areas have now also been handed over to our client Bowmer and Kirkland and their follow-on trades, allowing the next phases of the development to progress in line with programme.

The structure has been designed to showcase high-quality architectural concrete finishes throughout, with the team continuing to deliver to a high standard. Close collaboration across the wider project team has also helped maintain focus on the project’s sustainability and carbon reduction objectives.

Excellent progress from everyone involved as the building continues to take shape in the heart of Manchester.

We are incredibly proud of Nathan Moss, who completed a 50 mile ultramarathon on Friday in an outstanding 10 hours and 48 minutes. An incredible achievement that demonstrates real determination, resilience, and commitment.

Nathan took on this challenge to raise funds for the Team Ted Foundation, one of the fantastic charities we are proud to support this year. The charity provides vital support to families whose children are facing cancer or life-limiting illnesses, helping them create precious memories during incredibly difficult times.

☕ Kicking Off Our 2026 Make a Difference Campaign!

Each year, we select two charities to support through our annual Make a Difference campaign, and for 2026, we are proud to be supporting Alzheimer's Society and Team Ted Foundation.

We recently hosted our first fundraising event of the year with a coffee morning on site in Birmingham. Thanks to the incredible generosity of our site team, subcontractors, and client, we raised £330 for Alzheimer’s Society!

Alzheimer's Society does vital work supporting people living with dementia and those who care for them, providing advice, services, and campaigning to create a more dementia-friendly society.

A big thank you to Selkent for donating raffle prizes and helping to make the event such a success.

We are looking forward to more fundraising events throughout the year, keep an eye out for ways to get involved!

🏗️ Project Update: The Republic, Mayfield Manchester

Six months into the project, and the building is really starting to speak for itself.

The Substructure and mezzanine are complete. Level 1 works progressing, with two of three post-tensioned slabs completing this week. The 7-metre-high reception falsework is now in place, and installation of the bespoke waffle formwork is underway.

This feature space will showcase architectural concrete at its most ambitious, with REPUBLIC cast directly into the structure and a striking exposed waffle soffit throughout. Precision-engineered, CNC-machined void formers are being used to deliver a finish worthy of the setting.

Set within the award-winning Mayfield Park, this 230,000 sq. ft, 12-storey office has been designed to combine standout concrete architecture with strong sustainability credentials.

We have worked closely with our client Bowmer and Kirkland Ltd and the wider team throughout, supported by a delivery team chosen for their experience in award-winning architectural concrete.

🏗️ Green Street, Digbeth Birmingham 🏗️

Scale. Pace. Precision. All at once.

Week 30 on site, and momentum continues to build across the scheme. Six of the eight slip-formed cores are now complete, with the remaining two due to finish within the next fortnight. Superstructure works are progressing well across all blocks:

Block D at Level 5, with full perimeter screens installed

Block C now reaching Level 5

Block E completing the suspended Upper Ground Floor

Block F nearing completion of substructure, with podium works now emerging

Cidon is delivering four towers simultaneously, ranging from 6 to 30 storeys: tied together by a major podium slab. Once complete, the development will provide over 600 new homes, with more than 20% affordable, making a meaningful contribution to Birmingham’s housing supply.

A complex scheme delivered through reinforced concrete frames, slip-formed cores and precast elements, driving speed, quality and consistency across the site.

🚧 First Phase Slipform Now Underway at Wren Hall!

The first structure 40m x 24m high, complete with four 20m x 10m protection walls for Transformer Building 1 is now being slipformed and is scheduled for completion within the next 5 working days.

Appointed by BAM UK & Ireland, Cidon is delivering the service buildings package and transformer structures for EGL2 - the UK’s largest electricity transmission project to date. The scope includes the construction of two near-identical reinforced concrete structures at the new Converter Station.

This landmark scheme will deliver a 525kV HVDC subsea transmission cable linking Peterhead to Drax, making it the longest HVDC cable in the UK. With a capacity of 2GW, it will be capable of powering up to two million homes.

Eastern Green Link 2 ( ) is a 436km high-voltage direct current (HVDC) subsea transmission link connecting Scotland and England, delivered as a joint venture between National Grid and SSEN Transmission, with great collaboration from contractors BAM UK & Ireland, Hitachi Energy, Cidon Group

🎄 Christmas has begun at Cidon! 🎄

Today, we were delighted to donate 25 Christmas bags to Sheffield Leaving Care Service.

The team are doing a fantastic job organising personal visits and gifts for young people who have left the care system and may otherwise have no one to share Christmas Day with. It’s an incredibly important initiative, and we are proud to support it.

This is an organisation that is very close to our hearts. Their continued dedication ensures that young people across our region can access the opportunities, care, and support they truly deserve.

We are honoured to play a small part in spreading some Christmas cheer this season. 💙
