The 80s are having a bit of a revival… so we thought we’d dig into the Bumfords archives. 👀

These are genuine photographs from Bumfords in the 1980s — no AI, no recreated scenes, no pretending. Just real vans, real jobs, real people and a family heating business that had already been going for well over a decade.

Bumfords started in Sheffield in 1968, and looking back at photos like these is a reminder of just how much has changed.

The vans have changed.
The boilers have definitely changed.
The hairstyles probably needed to change. 😂

But more than 50 years later, we’re still here, still local and still looking after homes and businesses across South Yorkshire.

We’ve got plenty more from the archives too…

Who remembers the 80s?

💙 A lovely thank you from one of our customers

It’s always special when a customer takes the time to send something like this.

After our team helped Mr & Mrs Greensmith with their boiler at short notice, this handwritten thank-you card arrived at Bumfords:

“Thank you to all the team again for helping us out with our boiler at such short notice.”

For us, being a local plumbing and heating company is about more than simply fixing boilers. It’s about being there when our customers need us and providing the friendly, reliable service we’ve built our reputation on since 1968.

A huge thank you to Mr & Mrs Greensmith — your kind words are really appreciated by the whole team. 💙

🌒 1999 → 2026: still here for the next one!

These photographs were taken outside Bumfords during the solar eclipse of 11 August 1999.

This evening, South Yorkshire will experience their biggest eclipse since then—with around 91% of the Sun covered at approximately 7:10pm.

Twenty-seven years may have passed, but some of the faces in these photographs are still part of the Bumfords team today.

A lot has changed since 1999. The vans, the uniforms and perhaps a little of the hair—but Bumfords is still here, serving homes and businesses across South Yorkshire.

Do you recognise anyone? Tag them below—and tell us where you watched the 1999 eclipse.

Please remember: never look directly at the Sun. Only use certified eclipse glasses or a safe indirect viewing method.
