Earlier this year Boden completed a Community Support Scheme project for Havelock Community Centre in Portsmouth.

The centre were looking for a general maintenance volunteer to assist with a variety of tasks at the centre. Over time a number of jobs had built up, and as a charity run centre Havelock had little budget for upkeep, so needed volunteer support to be able to keep the centre safe and running.

Through the Community Support Scheme Boden were able to complete several maintenance tasks including:
• Fitting safety wires to windows
• Tightening wobbly taps
• Installing new toilet seats
• Fitting new bolts and hinges to the garden gate
• Fixing lose stair carpet
• Replacing damaged sink panelling
• Repairing and painting a children’s play kitchen

This Community Support Scheme project was also supported by Northport Construction Services, who kindly sent a team of their own engineers to complete some required repairs to the garden wall.

Spotlight on another Community Support Scheme Project

North Devon District Scouts needed an updated fire risk assessment for their campsite at Snapper in North Devon. Boden arranged for Junior Project Manager and qualified Fire Risk Assessor, Ollie, to attend the campsite to undertake a comprehensive review of the site, its facilities, and associated fire risks. Once complete, Ollie returned to the office and produced a detailed Fire Safety Risk Assessment which we then provided to the Scouts.

When speaking about the opportunity to be involved with a Community Support Scheme project and to be part of Boden’s efforts to give back to the community, Ollie said “As someone who used to visit the site when I was younger it was great to see the site was still so well looked after and that the Scouts work hard to keep it clean and ready for any camp attendees. It felt great to help out the Scouts as it’s nice to support the communities you were involved in when you were younger.”

Mark from North Devon District Scouts commented “We appreciate the support of a professional local company like Boden helping us to ensure our volunteers time is used most effectively by taking on tasks such as this which, while important, do not represent our core focus.”

This is a South West-based role, and candidates can be based anywhere between Plymouth and Weston-super-Mare. The role will involve working across the South West and South East.

The successful candidate will have experience working as a Fire & Security Engineer, along with a good understanding of current legislation and industry standards.
