Well that’s Christmas Eve done, early start from a call out at 5.15am. Pre Christmas drinks led someone to have one to many and dislocate their shoulder and in the process lost their house keys, don’t ask how because I never asked, to ruddy early to make small chat, then another call out to a lady who’s garage door handle broke and she couldn’t get into her garage to retrieve grandkids presents. On to the next, couple bought a house and on arrival to move their belongings in the uPVC mech failed, why you want to move on Christmas Eve is beyond me but hey ho!, luckily I had a replacement, sorted, yet another call out to a pub in Filleigh whose 5 lever lock had had enough, replaced and done, or so I thought. Received a call from Australia which I ignored, thought it was a scam call, received text saying that they were staying in Snapper, a little hamlet near Barnstaple, and they couldn’t open their back door, dead bolt won’t retract. Just time for some late Christmas shopping,well ish. That’s it I’m done in, home for a shower and a curry. Please peeps look after your keys because I’ve had enough for the day/night. Hope you all enjoy your Christmas meal and spending time with your friends and family.

And here we are again. Another person who’s locked mech had failed and absolutely ripped off with this company. The customer couldn’t get their double glazed door to engage the hook bolts and went on Google to search ‘local’ locksmiths and up popped BS Security Maintenance, also trading as LSR. Beware these people will con you. If you Googlelocal it does not always ‘mean’ local to Google. Please ask where they are coming from, the address of their business and cost before you agree, if in doubt ask friends or neighbours if they know a local locksmith. Please and I know it’s easy for me to say but don’t panic because generally when you do this is what will happen. I live in Barnstaple and also have a workshop in Barnstaple. More on my recent call to this ladies property on behalf of her carer who had concerns about the invoice. This client was not overcharged but excessively robbed. Luckily she paid my CC. After doing some phoning around, her bank, the CC company and trading standards I have managed to secure a refund for her of between £2300-2400. The client and I wrote a letter to them asking for a refund, sent a letter to trading Standards and a letter to the CC company. Trading Standards were about as useful as a chocolate fireguard but did tell me what to do. We also wrote to the robbing company, heard diddly squat, and I mean diddly. The CC company have now removed this company, they say!. Like many businesses there a good one, bad ones and then disgusting ones, this company falls into the latter. To say I am overjoyed by this result is an understatement. I would like to thank BP Locksmiths and RS Locksmiths for supplying quotations along with myself for the CC company to average out the mean cost of this job. People please take care and ASK where your local tradesmen are based. They may have a local telephone number but could be based anywhere, also ask where they are coming from. Be safe but be careful. I wouldn’t want anyone else to suffer the stress that Patricia has done.

Some people just won’t admit what the have done. Four Seasons Landscapers just drove down my Street and hit the mirror. Now having scratches on it he is claiming that he didn’t bust the mirror shell. Not an apology or anything from him just walked of saying he didn’t do it. Reported to the police but they are about has helpful as a chocolate fire guard.

This happened to a lady last week. £2640.00 to replace her door lock that was not working correctly. I have attached the worksheet invoice but deleted her name. This job even with a new mech should not have come to more than £200.00 if it’s just a standard PVCu door. This is not a local business so please, please check before you call someone out and make sure they are local, all you need to do is ask where they are located.

Failed gearbox on a PVCu door at a clients today. Unlike some of the competitors we don’t replace the full mech but just the item that’s failed. Replacing the failed item saves the client money and the unit is good to go again. Never pay for a full unit if the gearbox can be replaced. Also it’s very rare that the gearbox and cylinder fail at the same time, so, if someone says you need a new Door Mech and cylinder ask why!. It’s normally one or the other.

Sometimes it’s about trying to prevent kids from fiddling with windows and seeing if they can fly, which unfortunately they can’t. Removed Outside Access Device from a block of Apartments in Barnstaple on Friday. Tenants sometimes forgetting to lock on leaving building and vagrants using hallways to sleep in and facilities, toilets, showers etc. New Mul-T-Lock SmartAir fitted. Access gained by way of fob and times out after a few seconds not allowing access to unauthorised users.
