I might be wrong but I think there’s more to this crackdown on cowboy builders than they’re letting on.
Obviously nobody agrees with cowboy builders ripping people off and they should be dealt with, but I reckon there’s another reason behind it.
I think the bigger picture is getting trades to stop doing so many cash jobs. If everything goes through the bank then there’s a paper trail for every job and every payment, which means the government can see exactly what’s coming in and collect more tax.
Sounds great when they call it “cracking down on cowboy builders”, but is that really all it’s about?
Personally I think this is just another way of trying to get rid of cash jobs and make sure the government gets their cut of everything.
