π¨ Potentially Life-Saving Boiler Fault Found During Routine Service π¨
Today we attended an Ideal boiler for a full strip-down service and inspection.
As part of our service procedure, the boiler was completely stripped, cleaned, and all key components inspected to ensure it was operating safely and efficiently. π§π₯
During our final safety checks, we carried out an Air Integrity Test on the flue system. This test revealed something the customer had no idea about β products of combustion were being drawn back into the boiler casing.
After further investigation, we discovered a failed flue seal within the flue system. The damaged seal was allowing flue gases to escape from the flue and re-enter the appliance compartment rather than being safely discharged outside.
β οΈ Why is this dangerous?
A failed flue seal can potentially allow harmful combustion products, including carbon monoxide (CO), to escape from the flue system. Carbon monoxide is colourless, odourless and can be extremely dangerous if left undetected.
Thankfully, the issue was identified during our testing before it developed into something more serious.

This is a perfect example of why annual servicing is about far more than just cleaning a boiler. Safety checks can uncover hidden faults that homeowners would never know existed.
If your boiler is due a service, donβt leave it until it breaks down.
