Do you know?
We love nothing more than an early morning shout for help. But recently we’ve had a few emergency’s which when arriving to are a lot worse than they needed to be. So,
If you have five minutes at some point try and familiarise yourself with your property, whether you’ve lived there for ages or recently just moved in.
We suggest these three actions
- find your gas meter and the emergency control valve. This should be turned off if you ever smell gas, then call a gas safe engineer.
- find your stopcock for the building. However this might be under the sink, in a cloakroom or even outside on the pavement.
- if you look under any sink, bath, or behind a wc you should have isolation valves to be able to shut off that one sink, or the wc etc. the screwdriver slot in the middle of these needs to be turned so it’s horizontal across the pipe. This will isolate the “tap” while leaving the rest of the house still having water.
These simple steps could save a bit of heartache if you ever have an emergency
