A kitchen with a story
When we first walked into this kitchen in Friars Cliff, much of the thinking had already been done.
Our client and her husband had carefully planned the kitchen and utility together. An accomplished engineer with a meticulous eye for detail, he had approached the project with the sort of precision you might expect from his background.
Our client spoke with great pride about the planning they had done together, and we were later entrusted with picking up those plans and bringing the project to completion.
That made this a rather different installation for us.
The cabinetry had already been designed, ordered and delivered, and some of the work was underway. Not every intention had been written down, so there were details to interpret, adjustments to make and plenty of problem-solving as the plans became a finished kitchen.
In the main kitchen, the sink cupboard had a lot to accommodate: the plumbing and waste, a water softener and the tank for the Quooker boiling-water tap. Once the cabinetry was correctly installed, the quartz worktops could then be templated to the room as it actually stood.
The utility room brought its own challenges, with virtually every millimetre of the original design put to use. Small adjustments along the way allowed the finished space to work as intended while keeping all that valuable storage.
What we particularly love is that you don’t see any of that complexity in the finished rooms.
You see a calm, considered kitchen with dark wenge and muted green-grey cabinetry, pale quartz worktops, generous storage and a breakfast-bar peninsula, with a hardworking utility room just beyond.
There are things in this project that nobody looking at these photographs would know had required any problem-solving at all.
And that’s exactly how it should be.
