Last week Helen & Neil had the pleasure of joining Matt Williams (Helen is RIBA Branch Chair for Wiltshire) to judge and present the end-of-year architecture awards at the University of Bath.
The RIBA Bristol and Bath Committee was proud to support student awards across the University of Bath, UWE Bristol and Bath Spa University, recognising excellence in design and architectural thinking.
What was particularly inspiring was seeing how students are looking beyond the boundaries of the built environment to address some of the biggest challenges facing society. Their projects explored issues including sustainability, population growth, changing patterns of work and living, and the creation of places that support health, wellbeing and community.
Congratulations to all the award winners and to every student who exhibited their work.
The future of architecture is in good hands, and it was encouraging to see so many students exploring how design can positively shape both human experience and the wider world.

Planning consent granted for a replacement dwelling in Hampshire.

The proposal reinterprets the local vernacular, combining red brick and flint to anchor the new house within its rural setting.

We worked closely with the clients and planning authority to develop a proposal which balances the needs of modern family living with a form and materiality that sits comfortably within its surroundings.

Meet Claire, who brings a meticulous attention to detail and a passion for interior design to her work as a fully qualified Architect.

Currently, Claire is finalising a project that has transformed two barn conversions into a single, cohesive residence, involving a complex internal renovation, including a stairway redesign and spatial reconfiguration. Her upcoming project, a Georgian townhouse renovation on Bathwick Hill, presents unique challenges due to its listed status. However, the carefully crafted plans are taking shape, channeling our clients individual tastes into a scheme that is in harmony with the existing Georgian architecture.

We are delighted to welcome Hadi, a talented Bath University 3rd-year student, to our team at Hapticity Architects. His passion for ethical and sustainable architecture, combined with his love of travel, makes him an excellent fit for our team. Having spent most of his life in Sudan, Hadi brings a unique understanding of how thoughtful architecture can positively impact environments and the people who inhabit them. As a designer, Hadi adopts a user-centric approach, seeking to solve problems by considering the perspectives of those affected by the space. He also draws inspiration from his personal experiences in his design. With a passion for travel, Hadi seizes every opportunity to explore diverse built and natural environments, capturing his experiences through photography.

Swipe right to see some of Hadi's university work.

Really excited to have been part of bringing the RIBA South West Awards to the Locksbrook campus at Bath Spa University, tomorrow Thursday the 7th May 🙌

A special shoutout to Helen, whose role as Chair of RIBA Bristol and Bath has been key in making this happen.

Great to have Chris Williamson (RIBA President) joining us, along with local MP Wera Hobhouse and Alex Sherman from the Bath Preservation Trust.

With 13 practices shortlisted, it’s shaping up to be a brilliant evening celebrating some of the best architecture in the South West ✨
