From building site to dream apartment…

It’s been a pleasure working with local entrepreneur and businesswoman Charlotte Randall helping bring her vision for a new kind of luxury serviced accommodation in Bath to life.

Having spent time working abroad, Charlotte understood the challenge of finding somewhere that feels like home while settling into a new city. Her beautifully restored Georgian apartment on Great Pulteney Street offers exactly that – a fully furnished, design-led home for stays of 2–6 months, complete with all bills included, weekly cleaning, and linen changes.

Our team transformed this Grade II listed property through a complete renovation, including:

• Full strip-out and refurbishment
• Complete rewire with feature lighting installation
• New plumbing and traditional-style radiators
• Lime plastering and restoration of original features
• Luxury marble and gold bathroom installation
• Creation of a practical utility space
• Stunning kitchen installation with beautiful views across Bath
• Floor sanding and restoration throughout
• Full decoration

The finished result is a beautifully restored Georgian property that combines historic character with modern functionality.

From a single home to double the space!

A year ago we handed back the keys on this comprehensive residential renovation — and it’s one we’re really proud of.

The brief was ambitious: significantly increase space, improve flow, and future-proof the property — all while ensuring a high-quality finish throughout.

The scope was extensive:
• Double storey wrap-around rear and side extension
• Loft conversion
• Full internal reconfiguration
• New front porch
• Landscaping works
• Detached garage / future living space

From cramped and outdated to bright, open-plan family living!

This Bath home just wasn’t working anymore – whilst it had great potential, it simply wasn’t keeping up with family life anymore. The single skin rear extension was too cold and an awkward useable space, the kitchen was small and outdated, and the dining space was becoming too tight as the children grew.

Working with Sicolo Webb Architects, we helped to reimagine the ground floor and create a space that truly works for them.

We removed the old existing rear extension and built a single-storey rear extension, opening everything up into one bright, flowing space. Large sliding doors now connect the home to the garden, bringing in natural light and making it feel bigger and more welcoming.

Inside, we installed a beautiful new Magnet Kitchens kitchen with a central island—perfect for family life and entertaining. The whole ground floor was upgraded with new insulation, underfloor heating, and a full redecoration.

Outside, we raised and repaved the patio with porcelain tiles, added a pergola, built planters, and installed a safe glass barrier so the children can play freely.

Sustainability was also key, with an air source heat pump and EV charger provision included to future-proof the home.

The result? A warm, open, and practical family space they can grow into for years to come.

The Besley&Co team just levelled up!

Yesterday we spent the day with AP First Aid Training completing our First Aid training — and what a valuable experience it was!

From CPR to defibrillator use, wound care to emergency response, Paul and the team packed the day with everything we need to look after one another on site and beyond. Fingers crossed we never have to use it, but being prepared to look after each other – and others – is something we take seriously.

And the best part? It wasn't just informative — it was genuinely brilliant fun. The kind of training day you actually enjoy.

A huge thank you to Paul Hudson at AP First Aid Training for delivering such an engaging and informative session — we honestly can't recommend him enough. If your team needs first aid training (and they do!), Paul is your man. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Design inspiration we love...

At Besley&Co, we’re always looking to great architecture and thoughtful interiors for – especially spaces that respect their history while feeling fresh, modern and full of character.

During a recent stay in Brighton & Hove, we came across a beautifully reimagined warehouse mews home that stopped us in our tracks. Once a working stable serving the surrounding Regency properties, it has been transformed by a specialist in historic restoration into a space that feels both grounded in its past and confidently contemporary.

Iconic furniture sits alongside relaxed, liveable comfort. Bold colour choices and playful pattern bring warmth and personality, while recycled and reclaimed materials are used with real – scaffold boards underfoot, street lamps repurposed as dramatic ceiling lights, and anglepoise lamps reworked as practical kitchen lighting.

What really stood out was the attention to detail. Layered shelving filled with books and vinyl, tactile textiles, glass bricks, eclectic artwork and unexpected vintage pieces all come together to create a home that feels curated, personal and timeless.

Spaces like this remind us why we love what we do. Thoughtful design, clever reuse and craftsmanship can transform old buildings into homes that are distinctive, sustainable and full of soul – exactly the kind of approach we aim to bring to every Besley&Co project.

At the end of last year, we got to work on a lovely little project in Widcombe, Bath.

The brief was to transform a former basement bedroom in an elegant period villa into a stylish, industrial-chic upholstery workshop. As is often the case with period properties, the porous ashlar stone had led to damp issues, making the space unsuitable as a bedroom — but perfect for a rethink.

We stripped the plastered walls back to the original stone, allowing the room to breathe once again. In the process, we uncovered a hidden fireplace, which became a feature in its own right. This resulted in the original plans for a drop down table to be revised – the fireplace was left exposed and a lovely oak mantelpiece was installed above it.

To complete the space, we designed and installed bespoke cabinetry including a workbench, shelving and a pegboard. Crafted from birch ply and painted in Farrow & Ball Railings, the joinery brings both function and character to this creative workshop.

A great example of how thoughtful design can give new life to underused spaces.

Lovely to pop back and see this meeting room we refurbished recently for Bath-based global food & drink design agency Osbourne Pike.

It’s looking so smart now that it’s fully dressed – pictures up and the shelves styled with the packaging.
