The Mathew, Bristol. To commemorate my Fathers 80th Birthday, I have transited from drawing buildings to drawing my first ever boat.

The Mathew was sailed by John Cobot in 1497 as part of the discovery of Newfoundland from the West. A replica ship currently resides in Bristol Harbour.

PRIVATE COMMISSION. My mate commissioned me to curate a Home Portrait for an early Valentines Gift for his fiancée of her childhood home in Bristol.

The drawing has been carefully considered to historically reflect the Victorian Terrace house that once stood.

This piece has some subtle touches that were specifically requested by one of the last romantics - two magpies for joy; a hot air balloon to reflect its location; a silhouette of his fiancée and her mother.

Please PM me if you would like me to curate a piece of Architectural Art of a special location.

The Golden Ratio is a mathematical ratio that is generally found in nature that describes the perfectly symmetrical relationship between two proportions.

Approximately equal to a 1:1,61, the Golden Ratio can relate to the Fibonacci Sequence and Numbers. The Golden Spiral can then be plotted which occurs organically within the natural world.

In Ancient Greek Architecture, the Golden Ratio has been used extensively creating a pleasing relationship between the width of the Building, its height, the size of the Portico and the setting-out of the Columns.

Leonardo da Vinci, among other artists throughout the ages, made extensive use of the Golden Ratio in their compositions. This can be found within 'The Last Supper' and the 'Mona Lisa'.

WORK IN PROGRESS. Checking proportions and order of one of the Capitals that forms part of the Ionic Columns for The Pump Rooms.

I had to go back to basics with this one trying to draw curves again - detail yet to be added.

PROFILE. A little bit about me. I will post up some more information regarding my approach in due course.

For those with bad eye-sight - text below. 😉

“Tim Williams is an Architect and Architectural Artist based in Bath who has a passion for Historic Buildings and Context.

Tim is a young experienced Architect with nearly 20 years’ experience within the Construction Industry that specialises in the technical delivery of high-quality projects. He currently practices Architecture with one of the UK’s leading and award winning Architects and has previously delivered recognised projects across the Midlands and London.

Tim’s experience spans across a number of sectors including residential, commercial and healthcare which has been a result of exposure with some of the UK’s well-known practices.

His experience also extends collaboratively within the precast concrete sector and has been instrumental in assisting in the development of patented techniques for incorporating textiles within concrete. This ‘making’ process gave him the opportunity to work on exhibitions in Brussels, Bangkok, Dublin and London for high-profile clients such as Vivienne Westwood.

Tim studied architecture at Queen’s University, Belfast where he developed a passion for materiality and detail. This is where he was given the opportunity to place his thesis project ‘an Institute for Stone’ in Venice, Italy.

This reinforced his passion that is still prevalent today for the understanding of detail, construction techniques, craftsmanship and the drawing of beautiful buildings”.

PROJECT NEWS: Coming soon in 2021, I shall be replicating Thomas Baldwin’s The Grand Pump Room - South Colonnade that was completed in 1789.

The Colonnade celebrates nine bays of unfluted Ionic Columns with a three-bay Pediment containing Sphinxes facing a wreathed Oval with a relief of Hygiea (Goddess of Health). This formed the original entrance to the New Private Baths that carries the inscription ‘King and Queen’s Bath’ on the Entablature.

Paintings: Harwood J&F, 1841. Storer H S, 1818.

I am looking forward to getting started on this piece. Happy New Year!

Full testimonial below.

“Absolutely amazing piece of artwork....attention to detail is second to none. I love the clean-cut precision and the fact that there isn’t a busy background to detract from the main image. 10/10”.
