🌳 TPO Oak Tree Pruning 🌳

Careful, considered pruning carried out on this mature Oak Tree (Quercus robur), protected by a Tree Preservation Order.

With the appropriate consent in place, our team carried out selective crown pruning to manage the tree’s relationship with the adjacent overhead power lines, providing suitable clearance and reducing the likelihood of future encroachment.

With mature protected trees such as this, the aim is always to achieve the necessary clearance while retaining a balanced, natural crown and preserving the tree’s long-term amenity value.

A good example of targeted arboricultural management — addressing an important site constraint while retaining a fantastic mature Oak within the landscape.

🌳 Managing Trees Alongside Productive Farmland 🚜

This week our team have been pruning back a long line of mature Eucalyptus Trees which had begun to significantly overhang the neighbouring agricultural land.

As the trees developed, the increasing canopy spread was impacting the usable and productive area of the farmer’s fields. Our works focused on carefully pruning back the overextended growth to provide improved clearance while retaining and managing the tree line.

Timing was particularly important on this project. Carrying out the works immediately after harvest gave us the opportunity to safely access the field with our MEWP, allowing the team to work efficiently along the full length of the boundary without affecting standing crops.

A great example of how well-planned tree management can balance the retention of established trees with the practical requirements of working agricultural land. 🌳🚜

🌳 Summer Training Day 2026 🌳

A few weeks ago we took a full day out of the diary, laid the tools down and focused entirely on training, safety and our team.

Working in arboriculture means being prepared for situations we hope never happen. Every member of the team took turns ascending the tree and carrying out an aerial rescue in a realistic scenario, refreshing the procedures, techniques and communication required should an emergency ever occur.

Taking a productive team off the tools for a full day is a significant investment, but one we believe is absolutely worthwhile. Regular training keeps skills sharp, reinforces safe working practices and, most importantly, helps ensure everyone goes home safely at the end of the day.

Once the serious work was complete, we headed over to Daytona Milton Keynes for a well-earned afternoon of competitive karting! 🏎️

A great day combining important training with a bit of fun. Investing in our team isn’t just about qualifications — it’s about continually developing skills, maintaining high standards and building a strong team that enjoys working together.

👏 A huge congratulations to Jim! 🌳

We’re incredibly proud to congratulate Jim on successfully completing his Aerial Tree Rigging (CS41) qualification — another fantastic achievement and a reflection of his continued commitment to developing as an arborist.

Jim is a hugely valued member of our senior management team and has built up a wealth of practical arboricultural knowledge and experience over his career.

For us, training doesn’t stop once you become experienced or move into a senior position. Upskilling, refreshing existing skills and continuing professional development are just as important at this stage of a career as they are at the beginning.

What makes this particularly valuable to Eden is the knowledge Jim can pass on. As one of our senior team members, he plays an important role in helping develop the next generation of arborists within the business — sharing experience, setting standards and supporting our younger team members as they progress through their own careers.

🌳 Planting For The Future

This year we have experienced one of the driest and warmest summers on record, and the effects on our existing tree stock have been significant.

Prolonged periods of heat and limited rainfall place considerable stress on trees, particularly young and newly established specimens. As our climate continues to change, selecting the right species for future planting is becoming increasingly important.

Where trees have been lost, we are encouraging our clients to replant wherever possible, while also considering species that are better suited to warmer, drier summers.

Some of the species we are increasingly recommending include:

🌳 Honey Locust (Gleditsia triacanthos)
🌳 Turkish Hazel (Corylus colurna)
🌳 Holm Oak (Quercus ilex)

Choosing the right tree for the right location remains essential, taking into account available rooting space, soil conditions, ultimate size and the surrounding environment.

Another great job completed by the team today.

Jim, Matt and Leon responded to make safe several Willow Trees that had suffered major limb failures at a local golf course. With the prolonged spell of hot, dry weather placing many trees under significant physiological stress, weakened branches can fail unexpectedly, creating a serious risk to members of the public.

The team worked efficiently to assess the damage, remove the hazardous limbs and restore the area to a safe condition, allowing the golf course to reopen affected areas with confidence.

As periods of prolonged heat become more common, we’re seeing an increase in drought-related tree failures across a range of species. Regular inspections can help identify defects before they become a safety issue, particularly in high-use locations such as golf courses, parks, schools and public open spaces.

One of today’s tree surveys highlighted exactly why regular inspections are so important.

This mature Turkey Oak (Quercus cerris) was found to have Ganoderma resinaceum fruiting bodies on the main stem, together with a large basal cavity. Ganoderma resinaceum causes a selective white rot of the stem base, buttress roots and lower stem. While it can be found on several broadleaved species, it is widely recognised as being particularly aggressive on Turkey Oak and Red Oak, where it can lead to significant structural decay and an increased risk of stem failure or uprooting.

The tree is positioned adjacent to a well-used bridleway and public footpath, making regular inspection and informed risk assessment essential. Fungal fruiting bodies are often just the visible sign of a much larger amount of internal decay, which is why visual inspections, combined with further investigation where appropriate, are so important in helping owners make informed management decisions.

Trees provide enormous benefits and, in many cases, can be retained safely for many years with appropriate monitoring and management. However, identifying potential structural issues early allows proportionate decisions to be made before they become a significant safety concern.

If you manage land with mature trees, particularly in areas used by the public, routine tree inspections are one of the best investments you can make in protecting both people and the long-term future of your tree stock.

We’re pleased to be starting a new project at Wyboston Lakes Resort and Golf Course.

Our team has been tasked with clearing a large fallen Willow Tree and carrying out a reduction of an Ash Tree to improve flight lines into the greens, helping to enhance both playability and the overall golfing experience.

Wyboston Lakes has undergone an incredible transformation over recent years, evolving into one of the region’s premier destinations for golf, business, leisure and hospitality. It’s clear to see the investment, vision and attention to detail that has gone into creating such an impressive venue.

We’re looking forward to supporting the continued development of the estate and working alongside a fantastic, forward-thinking team who are passionate about maintaining the highest standards across the site.

A great project for the Eden Tree Specialists team to be involved with, and we look forward to sharing some progress photos as the works continue.
