If you notice your Ideal boiler dripping, it could be this. It's commonly misdiagnosed as a sump cover fault. It's not, it's the entire sump itself. A small hairline crack appears over time and the only fix is to replace it.

A commonly misdiagnosed problem is a cracked sump on an ideal logic combi. Loads of guys diagnose as a leaking cover and even silicon the cover to the sump!

When fitting it, ensure the clips at the back are secure (check with a small mirror) and there is no gas leak. Check for products of combustion and job done. Takes about 45 to 90 mins.

Cleaning a Worcester heat exchanger and servicing the boiler. The fan pressure was -0.60 and when I managed to remove what I could, it was -1.54. It should read -3.0. This wasn't serviced for the entire time it had been installed. I called Worcester and they said it was OK. Don't neglect your boiler!

A customer who had a few issues with her boiler, it seems that for the last 10 years she'd never had her gasket changed. I cleaned the electrodes with a wire brush instead of replacing them.

Had a gas leak today, found during GSIUR 26.9 safety checks prior. We were gonna repipe the gas work to avoid removing floorboards, but decided to remove them (3 story building and boiler is at the top). Saved the customer a few quid in the process. Everything passed GSIUR 26.9

- What pressure should my boiler be?

If you don't run any hot water or turn on the heating, your boiler's pressure should read about 1 bar on the built-in pressure gauge.

That would mean 1 bar is a low-pressure setting.

Your boiler pressure should be between 1.5 and 2 bars when the heating is on.

- Why is the pressure in my boiler too high?

Once the boiler begins to heat water, the heated water expands and causes the pressure gauge to increase. You don't need to worry if your boiler shows a higher pressure than you expected when both your central heating and hot water are running. This is due to the expansion vessel, which is designed to control rapid changes in pressure.

- Follow these six steps to help lower your high boiler pressure:

1. Turn off your boiler and wait for the heating system to cool
2. Identify and check the boiler pressure gauge
3. If it’s above 2 bars, you’ll need to reduce the pressure
4. Ensure the filling loop is tightly closed
5. Bleed your radiators to release trapped air from the heating system
6. Check to see if the boiler pressure returns to its correct setting

- Is your boiler pressure too low?
If your boiler pressure is too low (anything below one bar), there may be a leak in the heating system.

- Boiler pressure still too high?

One of two things could be causing your boiler pressure to be too high;

1. The expansion vessel needs repressurising
2. Fault with the filling loop

Some handy tips.

- Regularly check your water level. A sealed system’s pressure should be between 1 and 1.5 bars. If you find it dropping too often, please contact us.

- We can help you if you hear strange noises coming from your boiler.

- Turn off the appliance immediately if you notice any smells, discolourations, stains, or burner marks.

- Usually located on an outside wall near your appliance, overflows and discharges should be checked for drips or leaks. If you find anything, please let us know.

- You can reset your boiler by pressing the reset or lock-out light if it locks out. If it cannot fire, please contact us.
