🧹 Planning your chimney sweep

To give yourself the best chance of securing your preferred appointment, we recommend calling at least one month before you would like your chimney swept.

During the busy winter and Christmas period, we may require even more notice, so please get in touch as early as possible when planning ahead.

🔥 Planning a stove or fireplace installation

Please allow sufficient time for both the home visit and the installation itself. We first need to arrange a suitable date to visit your home, inspect the property and assess the work required. Once the inspection is complete, there will also be a waiting period before an installation date becomes available.

If you have a particular month or occasion in mind, contacting us well in advance gives us the best opportunity to accommodate your plans.

Jobs such as replacing door seals, fitting stove glass or dealing with seized bolts can add significant time to a routine sweep. These repairs need care and attention, and our pricing reflects the time and work involved.

We follow a consistent process throughout each visit, from protecting the work area and inspecting your appliance to sweeping, cleaning, reassembly and final checks. Following these steps helps us maintain our standards and provide a thorough, dependable service.

Any additional costs are explained and agreed with you before the work starts, so you can make an informed decision.

🔥 As promised — here’s the herringbone design!

Following on from the standard brick-pattern installation we shared last week, here are the photos of the new herringbone brick panels fitted around this stove. 📸

The warm brick tones and textured finish add plenty of character to the fireplace, looking great alongside the black stove, frame and polished hearth.

Our suppliers now have both the standard brick and herringbone designs in stock, giving you another choice when planning your fireplace.

🔥 A safe flue liner installation starts with a properly swept chimney.

Before installing a flexible flue liner, the original chimney flueway must be thoroughly swept to remove soot, combustible deposits and loose debris.

Leaving these behind can cause problems:

⚠️ Soot and debris entering the room — feeding a liner through an unswept chimney can dislodge deposits, bringing them down into the fireplace and living space during installation.

⚠️ Unpleasant smells when in use — heat from the liner can warm old soot and tar deposits left around it, releasing strong odours.

⚠️ A potential chimney fire — combustible deposits remain a fire risk outside the liner. If they become hot enough to ignite, a fire can develop within the original chimney.

📸 The first THREE photos show the condition before our work, with heavy deposits remaining around the existing liner. The last TWO show the original flueway after we removed the liner and carried out the sweeping.

On this job, we had to remove the existing flexible liner to gain access and clean the chimney properly. Sweeping inside the liner would not have removed the deposits trapped outside it.

Although every care is taken, we cannot guarantee that an existing liner will come out undamaged or remain suitable for reuse after removal.

We supplied and fitted a new flexible flue liner for this customer, complete with warranty and certification.

Getting the preparation right from the start helps protect your home and avoids potentially costly remedial work later.
