During a routine inspection and Consumer Unit change today, we found this ⚡️ shocker ⚡️ 😫

You can see the neutral cable (blue) is incorrectly connected to the earth (yellow/green) cable of the spotlight. The earth cable is connected to anything metal that can be touched to prevent electric shock.

In this case however the neutral current was being sent to earth, raising the risk of electric shock to the homeowner.

The lighting circuit in question did not have RCD protection therefore the old Consumer Unit did not pick up the fault. The customer’s new Consumer Unit with RCD protection ensures any faults in future are picked up before there’s a chance of shock. 👍
