Hello all,
sooooo, the 2 elephants in the room here, fuel prices, rising over heads, and people who over charge due to lack of experience.
Elephant 1 We will have to adjust our prices at the start of April if things do not settle, to cover these extra overheads the government seems determined to cripple us all with. The best I can do is adjust the price depending on where you live and how many loads of waste we have to take away.
Remember, we provide 4 service levels,
cut and stack "cheapest"
Cut, chip, and stack timber,
Cut, chip and remove chip, leave timber
Or take everything away. (Most expensive)
Elephant 2
My business has been working in this industry since 2014. There is some much older fantastic companies out there. I have been working with trees since my teens. While I work anywhere required e.g hedge cutter in tractor, Arboriculture is my trade.
Im hearing young lads who have only graduated from the potty to the big boy toilet telling members of the public they need cranes, cherry pickers, costing the members of the public thousands extra in costs that just shouldn't be needed.
When you are training, you are told there is a time and a place for a crane, but we are taught how to use simple and technical rigging systems to ensure the job is done without damage. The members of the public are being told jobs that will take us 1 or 2 days will take 1 to 2 weeks. This is the difference between skilled workers who served time working in the industry to gain experience before jumping in and pretending to be self-employed arboricultural workers. These people i have been told are charging 4 to £5000 for a job that should only be 1 to £2000. If I tell you a job is 1 day and it takes 2 days, the 2nd day unless agreed is my fault, my pocket gets hit not yours. All jobs can be agreed in writing with a job description and full terms and conditions.
Call a veteran tree company with a few gray hairs before you take the word of a few lads who should still be in an apprenticeship and will cost you a clean fortune. We care about customer service and the customers' pocket.
