Feral pigeon poo... Not everyone's cup of tea... ☠️ 💩

Failed bird proofing had led to a number these birds roosting above this customers balcony and leaving a right old mess below!

I know this area of Eastbourne is problematic with these pest birds as I've attended a few properties in this area over the past few months.

It was decided to undertake a dry clean as this apartment was on the top floor and I didn't want to contaminate the properties below - to do this entailed the following:

* Using an industrial hoover to remove the majority of the bird fouling.
* Scrubbing the decking with a wire brush and hoover to remove any stubborn remnants.
* Wiping down the hand rail, glass work, windows and weather boarding with biocidal wipes.
* Finally using a biocidal spray over all contaminated areas to remove any harmful pathogens.

There is some staining left on the decking but this is being replaced with composite decking shortly. The customer was pleased with the outcome - I did run slightly over the time I allowed for, but really just wanted to make sure the job was done properly.

Recent local domestic rat job.

The customer had found a rat in her property, it had gnawed the corner away from one of the kickboards in her kitchen and had also gnawed a hole through the back of one of the kitchen units to access the food waste bin. The customer had called out a pest control contractor who had simply plugged the hole in the kickboard with wire wool and walked away. 🤦

I removed all the kickboards and found that they were accessing the kitchen via a soil pipe, the expanding foam surrounding the soil pipe had been gnawed away allowing rats easy access to the property.

With very limited space to work in, I managed to dig out all the expanding foam and seal the soil pipe surround with rodent excluder wire wool, traps were placed under the kitchen units and a follow up visit booked.

Investigation and problem solving is part of what RRL Pest Solutions do to stop the rodent problem returning.

The colder months are fast approaching and our little furry friends will be looking for warmer environments!

I've had a couple of these call outs this season, where a badger has pre dug out half of a wasp nest. I'm thinking this one gave up in the end!

Carpet Moth:

I'm currently busy treating these pests, as with most insects they thrive in warmer conditions.

Today I treated 4 rooms within a beautiful rural property, the high quality (natural fibre) carpet was treated with a residual water based insecticide - 15 litres was applied in total. This insecticide is approved to use within residential dwellings and once dry is 100% safe to walk on - Moth lures were placed throughout the ground floor for on going monitoring.

A follow up visit will be carried out in 2-3 weeks, this will make sure the infestation is completely eradicated.

Removing pigeon fouling and nesting material may not be everyone's cup of tea, I strangely find this kind of work very satisfying!

I recently undertook these cleaning works on behalf of a local housing association that were replacing the existing solar panels.

All bird fouling/nesting material was cleared from the solar panel fixings, roof and gutters and thoroughly treated with a biocide to remove any harmful pathogens - This will allow the contractors to work in a safe environment.
