🚪 THE DOORS ARE ON… WHICH IS BAD NEWS FOR OSCAR. 🐈

Another little update from our Leigh-on-Sea project, where the new doors are now fitted and things are really starting to take shape.

Unfortunately, this does mean Oscar’s security duties have officially come to an end.

For weeks, our trusty stuffed feline has been keeping a watchful eye on the place, guarding the entrance and generally making himself indispensable.

But now there are actual doors.

Sorry Oscar. You’re out of a job. 😂

🌦️ BUILDER. HISTORIAN. METEOROLOGICAL EXPERT.

We already knew Matt was handy with a set of tools.
We’ve since discovered he’s something of a local historian too.

And now, apparently, he’s branching out into long-range weather forecasting.

So, with September almost upon us, Matt’s been studying the skies, assessing the conditions and making his expert prediction for the rest of 2026.

What do you reckon the rest of the year is going to depend on?

☀️ An Indian summer?
🌧️ Rain. Lots of rain?
❄️ An early winter?
🤷 Or, in true British fashion… absolutely anyone’s guess?

🔨 STEADY AS SHE GOES…

We’re back at Wayne’s house, making those steady-as-she-goes changes that tend to happen when you’re a builder working on your own place.

The loft extension was made watertight a little while ago, so it’s been a case of fitting things in around everything else.

But now we’ve got a window of opportunity to get the cladding done - and we’re taking it.

Materials ready. Tools out.

Let’s go, go, go! 💪🔨

🎨 ANOTHER DECORATING JOB DONE AND DUSTED… ALMOST.

The painting’s finished, everything’s looking fresh and the tools are packed away.

Now for the hardest part…

Taking up the dust sheets and remembering where everything goes. 😂

Turns out moving the furniture back can sometimes be more of a challenge than decorating the room in the first place.

Just a little puzzle the Purkiss team had to solve today!

IT’S THE LITTLE THINGS THAT MAKE LIFE EASIER… 🔧🚰

Take isolation valves.

They might not be the most exciting part of a plumbing job, but fit them in the right places and, when something needs fixing or replacing later, you can simply isolate that bit rather than shutting off the whole water supply.

Less faffing. Less disruption. And a much happier plumber when they come back in a few years’ time.

Because really, all builders want to do is make your life - and, to be fair, their own - just that little bit easier. 😂

This is what happens when Matt spends a little too much time working on his own. Eventually, you start holding full-blown site meetings with yourself. 😂

Thankfully, he’s back on a job with Wayne now, so he’s got an actual human being to bounce these important questions off.

And you’ll be seeing exactly what they’re getting up to very soon. 👀

Until then, we’ll leave Matt to ponder the great mysteries of life.

GOT A LITTLE PROJECT IN THE BACK OF YOUR MIND?

We know it’s still the summer holidays and you might not quite be thinking about getting the builders in just yet...

Not all heroes wear capes. Some just hold a hoover under the drill. 🛠️💨

Today's top tip from Matt: if you're drilling indoors, keep the vacuum underneath and catch the dust before it gets everywhere. It's one of those little things that makes a big difference and keeps the job tidy from start to finish.

Tell you what... this beats watching EastEnders any day of the week.

We're back in Leigh... because, to be perfectly frank, the client has officially had enough of decorating!

So Matt's stepped back in to help get those final touches over the line. Sometimes that's exactly what we're here for – taking the pressure off and making sure the finish is every bit as good as the build itself.
