Full Home Rewire - an ongoing project, working around the customer’s needs, fully re-wiring the property with lighting and power, wiring data and telephone points throughout for a smart home, external CCTV system and a large supply to outbuildings at the rear.
A beautiful historic home in the local area, TW Electrical has the fortunate job of re-wiring the house whilst it is still occupied by the family of 4, including two children under 3. This makes the job a little more interesting as we are planning work around time slots and every night before leaving we ensure that floor boards are back down and our working area is tidied up to leave a safe environment for the children.
Revealing the age and history of properties is always a treat. Here, we found the old servants bell pull wire system, looking as good as the day it was fitted back in the late 1800’s. We even found part of an auction page from 50-year-old newspaper (probably when the house was last refurbished and rewired) dated June 1970. The floorboards have been carefully cut and lovingly lifted to allow them to be re-laid with minimum damage. All cables have been chased into the walls, with re-plastering and re-decoration happening in the weeks to come. We use a top of the range dust extraction system to minimise the generation of dust.
The old sockets were located just above the floor and light switches were at varying heights throughout the property. Now all are installed in accordance with the current Building Regulations heights of accessories for easier access and functional use. An old light switch that was still in use up until the rewire was wired in old VIR vulcanised rubber cable, dating from circa 1945-1962, which is past its life expectancy (when moved the rubber insulation fell off and there were no earths - unsafe for modern metal clad light switches and lighting).
