In this video, we remove a massive 24kW quad-fan Grant Aerona heat pump and replace it with a much smaller, smarter 8kW Ideal HP290 single-fan heat pump.
At first glance, it looks impossible. How can a house go from a huge 24kW heat pump down to an 8kW unit?
This is exactly why proper heat loss calculations, system design, flow temperature strategy, and installer experience matter. Bigger is not always better. In fact, oversizing a heat pump can lead to poor efficiency, unnecessary cycling, higher running costs, and a system that does not perform as smoothly as it should.
On this project, we looked at the property properly, assessed the real heat demand, and designed a system that was better suited to the home rather than simply replacing like-for-like.
✅ Old system: 24kW quad-fan heat pump
✅ New system: 8kW single-fan Ideal HP290
✅ Smaller footprint
✅ Cleaner installation
✅ Better suited to the property
✅ Designed around real heat loss, not guesswork
This video shows why heat pump sizing is absolutely critical and why choosing the right installer can make a huge difference to performance, comfort, and long-term running costs.
